Straily Goes Eight Innings In Shutout Win For Giants Against Twins

An eight-inning pitching performance from Dan Straily played a key role in the Lotte Giants’ 5-0 win on Tuesday over the LG Twins. The shutout victory saw Straily allow only two hits and one walk in his performance.

The home game was the first in two days for the Giants, as previous games at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea did not happen due to rain.

The Giants had a short lead of two runs through most innings, although the strong defence from the team didn’t urge them to pile on a lead.

Giants Get Ahead Early, Build Late

The Giants scored their first two runs in the third inning. The first run was batted in by Son Ah-seop, who drove a ball deep into center field to take home Min Byung-hun from first base. A sacrifice fly from Lee Dae-ho in the next at-bat took Son home as well.

Another rally came late in the game as the Giants scored three runs in the eighth inning. It started after a ground ball went over the head of first-baseman Roberto Ramos, giving Han Dong-hee the chance to get home from third base.

Against reliever Ko Woo-seok a hit from Dixon Machado drove home two runs to make the game 5-0. Reliever Yeo Geon-wook came in after to help give the Twins the three outs that eluded them earlier in the inning.

Straily The Key To Success on Tuesday

Holding off the Twins for eight innings, Straily was given his third win of the season. Reliever Lee In-bok pitched the ninth inning.

Straily has consistently gone deep into games for the Giants in 2020. The game on Tuesday was the second time this year that the starter played eight innings and the seventh time that he had played seven innings or more. He currently ranks second in the KBO for most innings pitched.

Delivering five strikeouts in his appearance, Straily took back his first-place spot in the KBO for most 2020 strikeouts. Sitting behind him is the star pitcher for the NC Dinos, Koo Chang-mo.

Giants and Twins See Potential To Move

The Giants have a chance to move into seventh place if success carries over to their other games against the Twins this week. Only a game behind the seventh-place KT Wiz, the Giants could see a move soon.

The Twins are in a position that is almost equally precarious and prosperous in the KBO standings. The 30-28 team are a game-and-a-half behind the fourth-place Kia Tigers, however, the 31-29 Lions sit right behind them with an identical .517 win percentage.

The Giants will host the Twins for two more games this week. Wednesday’s game is set to begin at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

Around The KBO

Lead by starter Odrisaimer Despaigne who played seven innings, the KT Wiz took a 7-2 win over the Hanhwa Eagles to start their week.

A 5-1 win went to the Kiwoom Heroes against the NC Dinos on Tuesday. The series is a big one, as the Heroes have the chance to get closer to first place in the KBO. The Dinos currently hold first, however the trailing Heroes are five games behind.

In a 19-run game, the SK Wyverns got a 12-7 victory against the Doosan Bears.

Rain Stops Giants From Hosting Bears For Second-Straight Day

For the second consecutive day, weather has held back the Lotte Giants from hosting the Doosan Bears. The final game of their three-game series did not happen on Monday due to persistent rain at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game was one of the three cancelled on Monday. A game between the Samsung Lions and KT Wiz as well as a matchup between the NC Dinos and the LG Twins was rained out.

KBO teams usually don’t play on Mondays, however, forecasts of rain on Sunday moved the games a day ahead.

The Giants looked to conclude their three-game series against the Bears which was tied through the first two matches. On Friday, the Bears won a 10-5 game. The Giants answered back the next day with a 5-4 win.

With the next week of play starting on Tuesday, the Giants will stay at home for a three-game series against the LG Twins. An early forecast shows rain potentially affecting the game, which is currently scheduled for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

On the weekend the team will head to the home park of the Samsung Lions for a series.

The Bears will head back to Seoul to start their next week. The ball club will play a three-game series against the SK Wyverns before heading to Gwangju, South Korea to face the Kia Tigers.

Around The KBO

A three-run home run from Choi Jin-haeng early was enough to give the Hanhwa Eagles the win, defeating the SK Wyverns 4-2.

Four runs early on was enough for the Kia Tigers, however, the team was able to earn 13 to win 13-3 over the Kiwoom Heroes.

Giants Hold Onto Lead Over Bears Despite Late Rally

The Lotte Giants held onto a lead against the Doosan Bears, winning 5-4 after a nail-biting ninth inning where the Bears took the game within a run. The win tied up the weekend series that is hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

Early Runs Keep Game Tied

Both teams scored two runs to start, with the Giants scoring three more to get a lead they could hold onto.

The Giants were the first to strike in the first inning with a hit from Jeon Jun-woo scoring a run. Later in the inning, a ground ball bobbled by Bears shortstop Kim Jae-ho allowed runner Son Ah-seop to get home.

In the second inning, the Bears were able to battle back with runs. Similar to the error in the inning before, a fumbled ground ball by Giants second baseman An Chi-hong allowed a run to come in. In the next at bat, a hit from Park Kun-woo scored a second run, tying up the game.

Giants Get Lead Off of Yu

The Giants took the lead yet again in the fourth after a hit from Min Byung-hun drove home two runs. A fifth run came an inning later as a ground ball from Han Dong-hee drove home a run. This continued the strong few games Han has had, having earned nine RBIs in the last three games.

After giving up his fifth run of the game, Yu Hui-kwan was pulled from the game. Given the loss for the game, Yu’s 2020 record is now 6-3.

Park Se-woong pitched five innings for the Giants before being taken out of the game. Getting four strikeouts, Park allowed five hits and two runs.

Bears Make It Uncomfortable

The game became tense late, as the Bears scored two runs despite only having room to give up one more out. A two-run home run from Jose Miguel Fernandez made the game a closer 5-4. Despite giving up the home run, closer Kim Won-joong was able to finish the inning and get the save.

Third Game Coming Up

With the series tied, the Giants will host the Bears once more before this week of play concludes. First pitch for Sunday’s game begins at 5:00PM KST (4:00AM EDT), however, early forecasts predict rain could cause delays.

Around The KBO

A high scoring game went the way of the KT Wiz, who defeated the Samsung Lions 10-7.

A first-inning four-run inning by the Kia Tigers was enough, however, the team was able to continue scoring against the Kiwoom Heroes, winning 8-3.

Late runs by the SK Wyverns gave them the lead and eventual win over the Hanhwa Eagles 5-3. The series is crucial for both teams due to their closeness in last and second last in the KBO standings.

The first tie of the KBO season happened between the NC Dinos and LG Twins, who remained 6-6 after 12 full innings of play.

Flexen Holds Giants Off While Bears Get Early Lead

Early runs for the Doosan Bears helped give them a 10-5 win over the Lotte Giants on Friday. The game was the start of a weekend series at the home of the Giants, the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

Flexen Wins Again Over Giants

The Bears attained seven runs through the first two innings, making starter Seo Jun-won get pulled early. On the flipside of things, Bears starter Chris Flexen played seven innings, allowing only one run in his appearance. Flexen earned his fourth win of the year and his second against the Giants.

Seo Struggles

Giants starter Seo had a short and damaging performance, only playing four innings before the bullpen was activated. Seo was given his second loss of the year for his game.

The Bears took the lead early with a three-run home run from Oh Jae-il. The game got extended to a seven-run lead an inning later, as hits from Jose Miguel Fernandes and Choi Joo-hwan scored two runs each.

The Giants finally got on the board in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly ball from Han Dong-hee scored Lee Dae-ho from third base.

Scoring picked back up for the Bears in the fifth, with hits from Oh Jae-won and Hur Kyoung-min driving home a run each. The plays came against Song Seung-jun, who finished the inning before being pulled from the game.

Oh picked up another RBI two innings later, hitting a solo home run against Kang Dong-ho to give the Bears their 10th run in the game.

Moon Struggles, But Ends Game

Bears closer Moon Dae-won struggled to end the game, giving up four runs before getting his third out. Moon allowed home runs from Han Dong-hee and Shin Bon-gi which tacked four runs onto the score.

Bears See Chance To Reclaim Second

A successful outing for the Bears could boost them back up to second in the KBO, a place which was taken by the Kiwoom Heroes after the Bears held it for numerous weeks of play. The Bears, who have a 34-23 record currently, are half-a-game behind the 35-23 Heroes.

The Giants will host the Bears for two more games this week. The second game is set to happen on Saturday with a start time of 6:00PM KST (5:00AM EDT).

Around The KBO

A one-sided game went to the NC Dinos, who defeated the LG Twins 12-2. Drew Rucinski got his eighth win of the season, moving his 2020 record to 8-1.

Although an early lead was enough for the KT Wiz, the team climbed to an 8-3 win over the Samsung Lions to kick off their weekend series.

The SK Wyverns made their game too close for comfort against the Hanhwa Eagles, scoring three runs in the ninth. However, the Eagles were able to hold on for a 6-5 win.

Going into the 11th inning to find a winner, a hit from Choi Won-joon scored a runner, giving the Kia Tigers a 9-8 win against the Kiwoom Heroes.

Han Dong-hee Helps Give Giants Win Against Eagles

A 5-3 win for the Lotte Giants on Thursday over the Hanhwa Eagles saw Han Dong-hee as the main contributor at the plate. The third baseman scored four runs in the game off of two separate home runs.

Han Plays Large Role In Giants Scoring

Most scoring for the Giants came against starter Kim Bum-soo, who pitched six innings before being pulled out of the game. Being handed the loss, Kim allowed four runs.

The Giants gained a lead early with a three-run home run by Han in the first inning. The Eagles were able to score a run of their own later in the inning, as Ha Ju-suk batted in a runner.

Just before Kim was taken out of the game, Han scored another run, hitting a solo home run to give the Giants their fourth run. Kim finished the inning before leaving the game.

Sampson Given Win

Similarly, the Eagles were able to get two runs on Giants starter Adrian Sampson before his exit. A hit from Oh Sun-jin drove home two runs, making the game a close 4-3 for the Giants still.

Sampson’s nearly complete six-inning game earned him his third win of the season, making his record 3-5 now. The game saw him deliver his lowest single-game ERA of the season apart from a scoreless appearance against the KT Wiz in June.

A late insurance run came for the Giants in the ninth inning as a sacrifice fly from An Chi-hong scored a run.

Giants closer Kim Won-joong was given his eighth save of the season for his ninth-inning performance.

Giants Have Potential To Move

With their win on Thursday, the Giants have a chance to move from eighth place in the KBO to seventh. Currently holding a 26-28 record, the Giants just barely trail the seventh-place 27-29 KT Wiz. The Wiz stay ahead for now as their .482 win percentage is higher than the Giants’ .481 percentage.

The Giants now head back home for a series against the 2019 KBO Champions the Doosan Bears. The Giants have gone 2-4 against the team this season.

The Eagles will stay at home for a three-game weekend series against the SK Wyverns. The team has won two games and lost four to the club in 2020.

The first run for the Giants came early against Saupold, with a hit from Lee Dae-ho driving home a runner.

An inning later, a ball hit perfectly into the left-center gap from Min Byung-hun took Jung Bo-geun around from first to home. Min was able to reach home after a ground ball to first wasn’t caught by first baseman Kim Tae-kyun, giving him time to get around from second base.
