Straily Leads Giants To Safe Win Over Eagles

An early series of runs coupled with a strong mound performance lead the Lotte Giants to a 6-2 win on Wednesday over the Hanhwa Eagles. The game was a bounce back from the previous day at the Hanhwa Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, South Korea, where the Eagles won in the 12th inning.

Saupold Struggles With Start

Eagles starter Warwick Saupold had a rough outing, allowing four runs over his six-inning appearance. The Australian was given his sixth loss of the year moving his record to 5-6.

The first run for the Giants came early against Saupold, with a hit from Lee Dae-ho driving home a runner.

An inning later, a ball hit perfectly into the left-center gap from Min Byung-hun took Jung Bo-geun around from first to home. Min was able to reach home after a ground ball to first wasn’t caught by first baseman Kim Tae-kyun, giving him time to get around from second base.

Lee, who got an RBI at the start of the game, hit a solo home run in the third to move the score to 4-0 for the Giants.

The scoring picked back up in the seventh, this time against reliever Jang Min-jae. A two-run home run from Jeon Jun-woo took the score to 6-0.

Straily Adds To Strikeouts

Giants starter Dan Straily had a successful evening, leaving the Eagles scoreless through his seven-inning appearance. He earned seven strikeouts along the way, putting his 2020 number at 78. He sits second in the KBO this season for most strikeouts, trailing the NC Dinos star pitcher Koo Chang-mo.

Straily was able to pitch himself out of a jam in the fourth, striking out Oh Sun-jin and leaving three runners on base to end the inning.

With the exit of Straily after the seventh, the Eagles were able to score a couple of runs. Against reliever Kang Dong-ho, Kim Tae-kyun was able to bat home two runs for the home team.
