Giants Get Closer To Wild Card Race With Shutout Win Over Eagles

The Lotte Giants picked up their second-straight win over the Hanhwa Eagles on Saturday, winning a one-sided 10-0 game. The win was the second in a three-game series hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The Giants are getting closer to playoff contention, now holding a 62-58-1 record in seventh place. The team is two-games behind the sixth-place Kia Tigers, and only three games behind the wild card team, the Doosan Bears.

Giants Get Ahead By Six Early

The Giants got their lead early against the Eagles, wasting no time to score.

The Giants scored six runs in the first inning against starter Jang Shi-hwan. The first run came in the first at-bat, as Oh Yoon-suk hit a solo home run.

Later in the inning, Lee Dae-ho got on base with a hit, driving home Son Ah-seop. Lee was taken home immediately after with a two-run home run from Lee Byung-kyu. Hits from Dixon Machado and a fielding error later in the inning made it 6-0 for the Giants.

Despite the first-inning troubles, starting pitcher Jang Shi-hwan was able to play three scoreless innings before being taken out of play.

Giants Score Insurance Runs

Two more runs came in the fifth inning, as Kim Joon-tae scored a two-run home run for the Giants. The runs came against reliever Ahn Young-myung.

The final two runs came in the seventh against Oh Dong-wook, who had pitched the inning before as well. After a solo home run from Lee Dae-ho started the inning, a hit later on from Kim Dong-han took home a runner.

Giants starter Lee Seung-heon won his second game of the year, leaving the Eagles scoreless through six innings. The game was his second-straight win since his return from injury, making his 2020 record 2-1.

Giants Edge Closer To Exciting Wild Card Race

The Eagles and Giants are set for one more game this week, with a Sunday game having a starting pitch scheduled for 2:00PM KST (1:00AM EDT).

The LG Twins and KT Wiz won a game each in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Twins won the afternoon game 7-2, with the Wiz bouncing back in the evening with a 12-2 victory.

Also playing a doubleheader was the Samsung Lions and NC Dinos. After their afternoon game tied 6-6, the Dinos won the evening game 12-2.

Lead by starting pitcher Chris Flexen, the Doosan Bears won 7-2 over the Kia Tigers.

Scoring four runs in two separate innings, the SK Wyverns took a heavy 9-3 lead against thee Kiwoom Heroes.
