Scoring late against relieving pitchers, the KT Wiz were able to battle back for a 9-6 win over the Lotte Giants on Wednesday. The game tied up a three-game series hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

A big player in the game was Wiz player Kang Baek-ho, who recorded four RBIs from three different scoring plays.

Giants Hold Lead Through First Half of Play

After five innings of play, the Giants had a comfortable 6-2 lead over the Wiz.

The run for the Wiz in the second half of the game started with Kang scoring again, hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Giants starter Dan Straily was taken out of play after the sixth inning.

With reliever Koo Seung-min on the mound, the Wiz put down three more runs to take the lead.

After a triple from Moon Sang-cheol brought in two runners, Mel Rojas Jr. gave the team the lead by bringing home another run and making the game 7-6 for the team.

The loss for the game was given to Giants reliever Kim Geon-guk, who appeared in the seventh.

A back-and-forth game saw late runs be the deciding factor for the Lotte Giants, who defeated the KT Wiz 10-9 on Tuesday. The game kicked off a three-game series hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game moved the winning streak for the Giants to five-straight games, the longest among the 10 KBO teams currently.

Late Hits Put Giants Ahead

The Giants took the lead late in the game, scoring runs in the seventh and eighth that gave them a lead. The first of the two runs came off of a hit from Jeon Jun-woo that scored a run. The run came against Yoo Woon-sang, who was handed the loss for the game for his short performance.

An insurance run came in the eighth inning, as Kim Joon-tae batted home a runner.

The Wiz scored one run late, with a fielder’s choice play allowing a runner to reach home. Giants closer Kim Won-joong was able to finish the inning and be awarded the save.

Following hits from Jeon Jun-woo and Son Ah-seop that took home a run each, Ju Kwon walked two more batters before being pulled from the game.

Reliever Yoo Won-sang finished the inning, although two more runs came after a walk forced one home and a fielding error allowed another.

Now with 11 games left in the season, the Giants find themselves in a tight bid for the wild card spot in the KBO. With a record of 64-58-1, the team is tied for sixth with the Kia Tigers. Both teams are three games behind the wild card LG Twins, who have a record of 68-56-3.

Straily Puts On Another Successful Performance

A large part of the credit for Tuesday’s Giants win can go to starter Straily, who held the Wiz scoreless.

Allowing a sole hit while on the mound, Dan Straily earned his 11th win as a Giant. Improving his 2020 record to 11-4, Straily earned eight strikeouts in his seven-inning outing. Straily continues to lead the KBO in 2020 strikeouts, now with a total of 160.

Wiz starter Kim Min-soo was given the loss for the game. Being pulled in the sixth inning, Kim allowed three runs, six hits and one walk while earning three strikeouts. Kim’s 2020 record is now 3-7, with two of those losses being against the Giants.

Home Runs Earn Giants Lead

Two solo home runs put the Giants ahead early on. Lee Byung-yu was the first to score a home run, hitting it in the third inning. Two innings later, Jeon Jun-woo hit his 19th of the year.

Giants Score Six More In The Sixth

Although two runs would have done the job, the Giants were able to put down six more in the sixth inning, bringing the total to eight.

Most of the runs in the sixth inning were scored against Jeon Yoo-soo, a reliever for the Wiz. Starting pitcher Kim appeared for the first two batters, allowing a hit and one strikeout. Because of allowing the hit, the first of six runs in the inning were scored against him.

The first run came off the bat of Lee Byung-kyu, driving home a runner. The next run was forced home, as a walk to Jung Bo-geun took third base runner Lee Dae-ho home.

An Chi-hong was responsible for two of the runs, taking in two runners off of a hit to left field. After facing six batters, reliever Jeon was replaced by Lee Dae-eun, who finished the inning.

Before closing out the inning, Lee gave up a hit to Son Ah-seop which took home two more runs, moving the game to its final score of 8-0.

Giants Look To Continue Pattern Against Wiz on Wednesday

With their loss on Tuesday, the Wiz are now tied for third in the KBO with the LG Twins. Both teams currently hold an identical win percentage of 56.8%.

Park Gets First Loss Since Early July

Giants starter Park Se-woong was taken out of play after the fourth inning. The game ended a strong streak of appearances for Park, with his previous loss dating back to early July. His 2020 record is now an even 6-6.

The only other run for the Giants occurred in the fifth inning. Like the first run, it was driven home by Jeon.

The Giants used two pitchers in the fifth inning. First was Han Seung-hyuk, who earned one out and allowed a hit before being replaced by Lee In-bok. Hits from Park Kyung-soo and Sim Woo-jun scored runs. The first of the trio was marked as a run against Han.

Home Runs Extend Lead For Wiz

Insurance runs came later in the game for the Wiz as well. Against reliever Park Shi-young in the seventh inning, Hwang Jae-gyun scored a solo home run.

The biggest scorer for the Wiz, Mel Rojas Jr. finally got on the board in the eighth inning, scoring a two-run home run to move the game to its final score of 11-2. The runs came against Jang Won-sam.

After two separate home runs from Kang Baek-ho, the KT Wiz got a 3-2 win over the Lotte Giants on Sunday. The win was the second in the series for the Wiz at the Suwon KT Wiz Park in Suwon, Korea.

Kang, a first baseman for the team is one of the hotter bats in the squad, sitting currently with 10 home runs in the season. He trails Mel Rojas Jr. in the statistic, as the team leader has 13 home runs so far.

Kang’s first home run came in the first inning, driving home Rojas Jr. as well. A solo shot in the sixth from Kang gave the team their three-run lead.

The home runs were against Noh Kyung-eun, who lasted six innings before the Giants pulled him. Given the loss for the game, Noh has a 3-3 record in the 2020 season.

The game was delayed for a short period of time in the second inning after the home plate umpire Park Keun-young was hit in the hand with a tipped ball. The game resumed after 10 minutes or so.

Starting for the Wiz was William Cuevas, who lasted seven innings. He was given the win, taking his record to 2-2 over six appearances. He also evened his record against the Giants this season to 1-1.

Coming back from a loss from Friday, the Lotte Giants got a shutout 8-0 win over the KT Wiz on Saturday. The game saw hot bats late in the game for the Busan squad as well as one of the best performances yet from starter Adrian Sampson.

The win came at the Suwon KT Wiz Park in Suwon, Korea, the home of the Wiz.

Giants Earn Eight

The Giants got ahead by two in the first inning. First, a hit from Son Ah-seop into left-center bought Jeon Jun-woo enough time to get home from first base. Dixon Machado drove home Son later in the inning to make the game 2-0.

After many scoreless innings, the Giants resumed with scoring in the seventh. Banging a ball against the left-center outfield wall, catcher Jung Hoon took home a third run for the team. The play had to be reviewed, as at a glance it was hard to tell if the hit was a home run or not.

Min Byung-hun picked up an RBI too, scoring a run off of a hit to the outfield.

After giving up a few runs, reliever Lee Bo-geun was replaced by Lee Sang-dong.

Lee’s pitching stint started on a bad note, as a hit to the outfield from Machado scored two runs. The final run of the inning came from Kim Joon-tae, who took home Machado with a hit.

Lee played until the end of the game, giving up one more run in the ninth inning to Kim Dong-han.

Wiz starter So Hyeong-jun was taken out of play after five innings. Being given the loss for the game, So allowed two runs and five hits, getting five strikeouts as well. The decision moved So’s 2020 record to 4-4.

Getting his second win of the year, Giants starting pitcher Adrian Sampson went six innings. Putting up seven strikeouts, Sampson allowed only three hits. In his fifth start, the game was Sampson’s first game where he did not give up a run.

The Giants had an explosive first winning, with three home runs scoring seven runs in total for the Busan squad. The home runs came from Jeon Jun-woo, Lee Dae-ho and Han Dong-hee. Being Jeon’s seventh of the year, he currently leads the club in home runs.

The 11-batter inning came against Bae Je-seong, who played three innings before being taken out of play.

An eighth run was tacked onto the Giants’ lead in the third, as Kim Joon-tae got home off of an error.

Wiz Begin Comeback

Down by eight runs, it took many plays in different innings to let the Wiz come back.

Their run started with a splash, as Mel Rojas Jr. scored his 13th home run of the year. Rojas is currently tied for most home runs in the lead along with Roberto Ramos.

In the fourth, hits from Bae Jeong-dae and Kim Min-hyeok made the game 8-3.

Jang Sung-woo got his first RBI of the game in the fifth, batting in a runner with a single to center field.

Sixth Inning Ties It Up

The Wiz’s strongest inning was the fourth, where the team ran through three relieving pitchers en route to tying up the game.

Oh Hyun-taek had a rough appearance to start the inning, giving up two home runs in the sixth inning before being pulled.

Park Shi-young was brought in next, being pulled after earning one out, allowing a walk and a hit. The out was a sacrifice fly that took a runner home to make the game 8-7.

While Park Jin-hyung was able to strike out two batters and end the inning, the pitcher allowed a hit from Hwang Jae-gyun to drop in, moving the game to an even 8-8.

Extra Innings Hands Wiz The Win

The deciding play came in the 10th inning, where a hit from Oh Tae-gon allowed Moon Sang-cheol to come from second to home. The close sliding play at home was challenged by the Giants, however, it was upheld.

The play came against Giants reliever Lee In-bok, who was given the loss for the game. A similar loss came in his appearance before, where a walk-off game went to the Kiwoom Heroes.

Wiz reliever Ju Kwon was given the win for the game after leaving the Giants hitless through one-and-two-thirds innings.

Wiz Get First  Win Over Giants

Starting their third series against the Busan squad, the Wiz tasted victory for the first time over the Giants. The team was previously swept in a home and away series each. The Wiz sit eighth in the KBO, with the potential to overtake the Samsung Lions, a team which is one-and-a-half games ahead.

The Wiz host the Giants for two more games, with the Saturday game starting at 5:00PM KST (4:00AM EDT)

NC Dinos star pitcher Koo Chang-mo put on another great performance, pitching seven innings and limited the Hanhwa Eagles to three hits and one run. The pitcher helped his team win 3-1.

A walk-off win went to the Kiwoom Heroes, who got two runs off of a hit from Ju Hyo-sang to win the game 2-1 over the SK Wyverns. The win was the third-straight walk-off victory for the Heroes.

Moving their winning streak to three, the Kia Tigers beat the Samsung Lions 5-4.

Four hours of battle resulted in the Doosan Bears picking up an 18-10 win against the LG Twins.
