The KT Wiz started their week with a high-scoring victory over the Lotte Giants, defeating the team 11-2 on Tuesday. The win came at home for the Wiz, at the Suwon KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea.
The Wiz put down five runs in the first three innings of the game. While many more were scored later on, the early runs were enough to give the team the win.
Tied Early On
The first run for the Wiz came in the second inning, as a hit from Jang Sung-woo drove home a runner.
The Giants were able to tie up the game, but only for a moment. At the top of the third, a hit from Jeon Jun-woo tied up the game again.
Wiz Get Ahead With Explosive Third Inning
In the bottom of the third, the Wiz put down four runs to take back the lead for good. After an error took home Sim Woo-jun earlier in the inning, a fielder’s choice against Kang Baek-ho took home the third run for the team.
Jang, who drove home the first run for the Wiz, took home two more in the third with another hit.
Showing off their defensive ability, the Wiz achieved a triple play in the fourth inning off of a ground ball from An Chi-hong.
Park Gets First Loss Since Early July
Giants starter Park Se-woong was taken out of play after the fourth inning. The game ended a strong streak of appearances for Park, with his previous loss dating back to early July. His 2020 record is now an even 6-6.
The only other run for the Giants occurred in the fifth inning. Like the first run, it was driven home by Jeon.
The Giants used two pitchers in the fifth inning. First was Han Seung-hyuk, who earned one out and allowed a hit before being replaced by Lee In-bok. Hits from Park Kyung-soo and Sim Woo-jun scored runs. The first of the trio was marked as a run against Han.
Home Runs Extend Lead For Wiz
Insurance runs came later in the game for the Wiz as well. Against reliever Park Shi-young in the seventh inning, Hwang Jae-gyun scored a solo home run.
The biggest scorer for the Wiz, Mel Rojas Jr. finally got on the board in the eighth inning, scoring a two-run home run to move the game to its final score of 11-2. The runs came against Jang Won-sam.
