Extra innings gave the Kia Tigers a 2-1 win on Sunday, scoring one run in the 10th to defeat the Lotte Giants. The deciding play came off the bat of Kim Tae-jin, who drove home Choi Won-joong to call an end to the game.
The win for the Tigers tied up the two-game series between the teams. The Tigers hosted the game at the Gwangju Kia Champions Field in Gwangju, South Korea.
The scoring play late in the game happened while reliever Choi Jun-yong was on the mound, although it was scored against Park Jin-hyung, who allowed Choi to get on base.
Being given the loss for the game, Park’s 2020 record is now 1-4 through 47 appearances.
One Run Each Early
The teams scored one run each earlier in the game.
The first run of the game came in the fourth inning, as Kim Tae-jin drove home Preston Tucker to put the Tigers up by one. The run was scored against Giants starter Dan Straily, who pitched seven innings before being taken out of the game.
Straily allowed five hits and one walk while earning six strikeouts. Straily has a total of 166 strikeouts in 2020, leading the KBO in the statistic.
The Giants answered back in the eighth inning, as a hit from Oh Yoon-suk took a runner home. The play extended Oh’s streak of consecutive games where he scored an RBI to five.
The run came against Tigers starter Yang Hyun-jong, who was pulled from the inning shortly after.
Giants To Play Twins and Eagles Next Week
The game on Sunday was the last matchup between the two teams in the 2020 season. Through their 15 meetings, the Tigers took 10 games.
Next week, the KBO will switch back to teams playing two teams a week, facing team one three times. The Giants will start their week on Tuesday with a three-game series against the LG Twins, who they have won and lost to five times each this year.
The Giants will head back home for their weekend series, hosting a trio of games against the Hanhwa Eagles.
The first pitch for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).
