Sampson Gets First Win Since Return For Giants, Defeating Bears

The Lotte Giants tied up their series with the Bears this week following a 7-3 win on Wednesday. The victory was the final game at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea for the week, as the Giants will head to Seoul for their next two games against the Bears.

A huge factor in the game was pitching from the Giants early on.

Giants starter Adrian Sampson had a successful outing, earning the win after keeping the Bears hitless through six innings. The win was a major bounce back for Sampson, who had given up six runs in two innings against the NC Dinos in his previous appearance.

Giants Earn Five-Run Lead

The first run for the Giants came in the fourth, as a sacrifice fly from Lee Dae-ho took home Jung Hoon.

The scoring continued an inning later, as hits from An Chi-hong, Jung and Jeon Jun-woo took the game to a 5-0 score.

The Bears were able to score three runs late in the game against relievers. In the seventh inning, a run batted in by Kim Jae-ho was scored against reliever Han Seung-hyuk.

Two runs came against reliever Koo Seung-min after Park Kun-woo hit a two-run home run.

Late Runs For Giants And A Loss For Lee

Insurance runs from the Giants came in the seventh and eighth inning to move the game to it’s final score of 7-3. In the seventh, a wild pitch from starter Lee Young-ha allowed Jung Bo-geun to get home.

Lee was pulled from the game after that at-bat, being given his eighth loss of the season for the performance. With a 3-8 2020 record, Lee’s season continues to be a rough one compared to his previous years which saw 17-4 and 10-3 records.

In the eighth inning a hit from An Chi-hong drove home Han Dong-hee. The play came against Choi Se-chang, who had been brought in during the inning before.

After winning a game each in Busan, the Bears will host the Giants for two games on Thursday and Friday. The first pitch for Thursday’s game is set for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).
