Wyverns Give Up Game Versus Giants With Troublesome Fourth Inning

After a day off due to rain, the Lotte Giants picked up an 8-2 win over the SK Wyverns lead by another strong start from Dan Straily. The performance gave the Giants their second win over the Wyverns this week, with a hard fourth inning putting the game out of reach for the Wyverns. The win came at the home field of the Wyverns, the Incheon SK Happy Dream Stadium in Incheon, South Korea.

Straily Earns Sixth Win

Giants starter Dan Straily got his sixth win of the season on Thursday, allowing two runs in his seven-inning performance. His outing saw him allow two runs in the early innings, however he settled into a groove and pitched four scoreless innings after.

Wyverns Score Two

The Wyverns were the first to strike in the game, scoring two runs before the Giants took over. The first run came early, as Choi Jeong batted in his 18th home run of the season. Choi scored again in the third, driving home Kim Jae-hyun to give the Wyverns a preliminary 2-0 lead. Choi leads the club in RBIs and home runs, with a close second place being Jamie Romak.

Giants Cause Trouble In Fourth and Fifth

The Giants started causing trouble in the fourth, scoring six runs. Starting pitcher Kim Joo-han was pulled early in the inning, being replaced by Kim Jung-bin after facing three batters, hitting one with a pitch and walking another.

Due to loading up the bases before being taken out of the game, the first three runs of the inning were scored against Kim Joo-han. Those three runs came off of three different plays, as walks forced three runs home.

Three runs were marked against Kim Jung-bin, although it was Kim Se-hyun who was at the mound for all three. Continuing the rally, hits from Jung Hoon and Son Ah-seop took the game to a 6-0 score. Kim finished the inning for the Wyverns.

After scoring RBIs in the inning before, Han Dong-hee and Dixon Machado came back for seconds in the fifth inning. Both scoring their own solo home runs against Jo Young-woo, the team moved to a 8-2 lead.

Giants Head To Seoul

Winning both their games in Incheon, the Giants will now head to Seoul for a three-game series versus the Doosan Bears. The Wyverns will stay at home, hosting a weekend series versus the Samsung Lions.

Friday’s games are set to kick off at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT). The rainy season in South Korea continues, with both the Wyverns and Giants’ upcoming games having an early forecast that predicts rain.

Playing seven innings, something that he had only done once before in the season, Noh allowed zero runs in his performance for the first time in 2020. Giants Move Into Seventh In The KBO Following Win Over Tigers

The Lotte Giants took a 7-3 win on Saturday over the Kia Tigers, continuing to score after the teams traded runs early on. The game tied up the Giants home series being played at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The win was the first for the Giants since the KBO started to allow live crowds last Sunday.

Giants and Tigers Take Turns

The Giants and Tigers traded blows in the early innings, going tit-for-tat in the opening two innings.

Both teams scored runs in the first inning. First was the away Tigers who scored after Preston Tucker drove home a run off of a hit. Leadoff batter Jung Hoon tied the game back up, hitting a solo home run to start the bottom of the first.

The Twins got ahead again in the second after a hit from Na Joo-hwan drove home a run. Persisting to keep the game close, a sacrifice fly from Giants player Shin Bon-gi tied the game up again later in the inning.

Giants Pull Ahead

A ball hit by Jeon Jun-woo bounced off the top of first-baseman Yoo Min-sang’s glove, going into right field. Ruled as a hit, the play drove home two runs for the Giants and made the game 4-2. The Tigers had trouble in the inning after as well, loading up the bases before ending the frame with a double play.

Another run was tallied for the Giants in the fifth after a throw over the glove of a first baseman allowed Jeon Jun-woo to get around to home.

Tigers starter Im Ki-young finished play after five innings, being given the loss for the runs that he gave up.

The first reliever to come in for the Tigers continued their troubles, as Moon Kyung-chan gave up a two-run home run from Son Ah-seop before getting the third out.

Giants Pitchers Given Decision

Pitching six innings, Giants starter Park Se-woong was given the win for the game. The decision moved Park to an even 5-5 2020 record, also balancing his ERA at 5.00.

A closing performance from Kim Won-joong earned him his 12th save of the season. The closer sits third in the KBO for most 2020 saves.

Game Causes Movement In Standings

Following their win on Saturday, the Giants moved up to seventh in the KBO. With a 34-35 record, the team surpassed the 35-37 Samsung Lions who lost their respective game on Saturday. The Tigers fell to fifth in the KBO, being overtaken by the LG Twins.

The Giants will host the Tigers one last time this week, with Sunday’s game starting at 5:00PM KST (4:00AM EDT).

Around The KBO

The KT Wiz won a shutout 11-0 game on Saturday against the SK Wyverns. The game gave So Hyeong-jun his first win in just under two months after being given four losses in his last six appearances.

A 8-8 game between the Doosan Bears and the NC Dinos went into extra innings, finishing with a 12-10 score in favour of the Bears. The Bears scored four at the top of the 10th, holding onto their lead despite giving up two runs after.

Brooks Leads Tigers To Win Over Giants

The Lotte Giants lost a low-scoring 3-2 game against the Kia Tigers on Friday, bringing the team back to play after two rained out games earlier in the week at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw two of the biggest pitchers from both franchises, as Aaron Brooks and Dan Straily battled.

Tigers starter Brooks had a marathon outing, pitching eight innings and throwing 105 pitches. Being given the win for the game, his 2020 record moved to 6-3.

Late in the performance of starting pitcher Straily, the Tigers were able to get two more runs on the board. A hit from Han Seung-taek scored two more runs, taking the game to a 3-0 score.

Giants Score, But Not Enough

The Giants answered back late in the game, although the team wasn’t able to muster up enough runs to tie up the game. First, a run came in during the seventh inning. A fielder’s choice against An Chi-hong took home Han Dong-hee, who scored a double earlier in the inning.

Tigers closer Jeon Sang-hyun had some trouble, facing six batters before ending the ninth inning. The third of the pack was Dixon Machado, who drove home Kim Dong-han to tighten the score to 3-2.

The Giants are scheduled to host two more games against the Tigers this weekend, with Saturday’s first pitch scheduled for 6:00PM KST (5:00AM EDT). Unlike the series against the Bears, it does not look like rain will prevent play.

Around The KBO

Hanhwa Eagles starter Jang Shi-hwan had a good game, pitching seven innings while only allowing one hit. His performance helped give the Eagles a close 2-1 win over the LG Twins.

The KT Wiz had trouble on Friday, as starter William Cuevas was pulled in the third inning due to dehydration. Despite the need for relievers early, the Wiz picked up a relatively easy win, defeating the SK Wyverns 11-1.

A fair lead topped off by a five-run ninth inning helped give the Kiwoom Heroes a 10-3 win against the Samsung Lions. Heroes newcomer Addison Russel had a strong game, earning two RBIs.

The NC Dinos had a late comeback against the Doosan Bears, putting on a six-run rally in the eighth to move to a 10-7 final score. With the loss, the Bears dropped to third in the KBO, giving the spot up to the Heroes.

Jung Earns Walk-Off Win For Giants Over Top-Ranked Dinos

A walk-off home run from Jung Hoon gave the Lotte Giants an 11-9 win at home over the top-ranked NC Dinos on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Giants had a crowd at home, as the team returned to the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw the Dinos slowly climb back from a lead the Giants gained early in the game. It became a tie game in the seventh after Dinos player No Jin-hyuk scored a grand slam for the Dinos, tying the game up at 8-8.

In the ninth, another home run from No put the away team ahead by a sole run. The game saw a long pause during the ninth due to rain. Once they returned to play, the Giants were able to take back the lead once Jung hit his home run, moving the game to its final score.

Early Runs Give Giants Four-Run Lead

The first inning saw the Giants get ahead by two runs, as the Dinos starting pitcher Lee Jae-hak faced seven batters. After walking Han Dong-hee and forcing home a run, a sacrifice fly from Dixon Machado took home the second run of the game.

The team followed up with a third run in the second inning, where Jeon Jun-woo batted home a run.

The Dinos got on the board in the third off of a hit from Na Sung-bum.

The Giants continued their early rally in the third, scoring two more runs. First, a hit from Min Byung-hun scored a runner. Dinos starter Lee Jae-hak left the game after, playing one two-and-two-thirds an inning. The appearance was his shortest since a mid-June game against the Kiwoom Heroes.

An attempted double play in the third saw a ball pass the Dinos first-baseman, allowing a fifth run to come in for the Giants, making the game 5-1.

The game became closer in the fourth inning after the bats of the Dinos started to heat up. First, a hit from Kim Hyung-joon took home two runs in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, an error allowed a third run to come home.

The Giants fought back, as Dixon Machado shot a solo home run into left field to make the game 6-4 in the fifth inning.

A single from Han Dong-hee in the sixth took home two more runs for the Giants.

The relievers in the ninth inning both saw a decision for their performance. Giving up the game-deciding three-run home run, Dinos pitcher Won Jong-hyun was given his second loss of the season. The second win of the season went to Song Seung-jun.

Giants Look To Overtake Lions

The crowd at Sajik Baseball Stadium was a small one that was spread out in their seating. The outfield seats in the stadium were vacant.

The win was the second time the Giants beat the Dinos this season, as the team lost their previous series in the season against the team two-games-to-one. Another win in the series could move the Giants up to seventh in the KBO, as the team is currently only half-a-game behind the Samsung Lions.

The Giants will host the Dinos two more times this week, with Wednesday’s first pitch set for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

Heroes Welcome Back Fans With Landslide Victory Over Giants

The Kiwoom Heroes coasted to an 8-1 victory over the Lotte Giants on Sunday, stopping the Giants from getting a sweep in the three-game series. The win saw an early rally put the Heroes ahead by five, allowing the team to coast for the rest of the game.

Crowds, Albeit Small, Are Back

Sunday was the first day of the season which saw a live audience at KBO games, as a small crowd was accepted into the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. The heavily spaced out crowd left the majority of the seats in the stadium vacant.

For the first time this year, cheers and chants done by the MC and cheerleaders at KBO games were met with claps. A small, spaced out amount, but an audible change nonetheless. The rules around current COVID-19 etiquette at the stadium prevented fans from belting out their team’s chant songs for now.

Heroes Get Five Off of Seo

The first inning was a troubling one for Giants starter Seo Jun-won, who gave up five runs in the time period.

Park Byung-ho brought home the first run, getting a hit that scored Kim Hye-sung. The second run came off the bat of Park Dong-won, although a call at third jeopardized the play.

The rally was threatened early on, as a supposed third out against Park Byung-ho at third base was called. After the umpires deliberated about the puzzling play on third base, it was decided he was in fact safe, validating the run scored in the play and continuing the inning.

The runs continued, with Jeon Byung-woo bringing home two and Park Joo-hong bringing in a final to make the game 5-0. To finish the batting order within the inning, ninth-slot batter Park Joon-tae grounded out.

Starter Seo didn’t give up any more runs for the rest of his performance, although he was given the hook early, being replaced in the fourth inning.

Heroes Add Extra Runs Later

More runs came later in the game for the Heroes, including a hit from Park in the fifth, who scored the first run for of the game for the Heroes earlier. In the seventh, he picked up his third RBI of the game with another hit. Kim ha-seong added to the tally in the eighth off of a fielder’s choice play.

While the Giants lost, they avoided a shutout on the scoreboard after An Chi-hong took home Dixon Machado in the sixth inning.

The Heroes had a large cast of pitchers appearing, as starter Kim Jae-woong only played two-and-a-third innings before being taken out. The game was the first starting pitcher appearance for Kim in the KBO. Coming in after him was Yang Hyun, who was given his fifth win of the season for the innings he pitched.

Giants To Head Back Home

The game saw the Heroes finish their week on a good note, after three losses and two cancelled games made for a rough week for the team before. The team will start their next week of play against the Doosan Bears, moving on to a weekend series versus the Samsung Lions after.

With their long road trip complete, the Giants will head back home on Tuesday to open a series against the NC Dinos. Staying at home, the team will play the Kia Tigers after.

Giants Get Deciding Runs Over Heroes Late In Starter’s Appearance

The Kiwoom Heroes cracked first in a close pitching battle against the Lotte Giants, losing 6-3 at home on Saturday. The game was the second straight win for the Giants at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.

Starting pitchers Dan Straily and Han Hyun-hee played well, although it was the Giants who capitalized on Han late in his stint to get their game-winning runs.

Straily Helps Giants Through Majority of Game

It was a strong performance on the mound by Dan Straily which helped the Giants on the defence. Playing seven innings, Straily allowed only two hits and two walks while earning eight strikeouts.

After 102 pitches, Straily was given the win for the game, moving his 2020 record to 5-2. The appearance was his fourth consecutive win.

Giants Get Ahead Against The End of Han’s Showing

The Giants scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning, as Lee Dae-ho got home while the Heroes tried and failed to get the third out at first base. An Chi-hong beat the throw to first, picking up an RBI on the play.

Cracks started to show late in the performance for Heroes starting pitcher Han Hyun-hee. The seventh inning saw the end of his performance, as he was pulled following a hit from Jung Hoon that scored two runs.

Reliever Jo Duk-gil came in, with hits from Son Ah-seop and Jeon Jun-woo scoring three more runs in total during his time. Jo finished the inning, although the Giants had gained a 6-0 lead at that point.

The conclusion to Han’s performance can’t underscore what happened before, as the pitcher achieved a season-high of 10 strikeouts in his time there.
