Early Runs Allow Giants Coast To Victory Over Heroes

After a close back-and-forth early game, the Lotte Giants held onto a 4-2 win over the Kiwoom Heroes to start their weekend series. The game took place at the Heroes’ dome complex, the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.

The game was only the second of the week for the Giants, as their Wednesday and Thursday games against the SK Wyverns were rained out.

Teams Trade Lead Early On

The Giants got a short one-run lead in the first inning, as a hit from Jeon Jun-woo took a runner home.

The Heroes responded in the second and third inning, scoring a run in each to get a lead of their own. In the second, a solo home run from Park Dong-won tied the game up.

A sacrifice fly ball from Seo Keon-chang in the third inning put the Heroes ahead by a run.

Heroes starter Choi Won-tae left during the fourth inning after getting two outs, allowing a hit and a walk. Taking his place was Yang Hyun.

Three runs scored during Jung Hoon’s at-bat. First, a passed ball allowed Dixon Machado to get home. Later in the batting appearance, Jung hit a ball that drove home two more runs, making the score 4-2.

Choi was given the loss for the game, evening his 2020 record at 4-4.

Park Given Win

The scoring didn’t continue past the fourth inning, with the final three innings of the game seeing only one hit. The ninth-inning performance from Giants closer Kim Won-joong earned him his 11th save of the year.

Giants starter Park Se-woong was given the win for his five-and-one-third inning performance, allowing two runs and five hits while getting seven strikeouts.

Giants Look To Overtake Wiz

The Giants look to move in the rankings if they can finish their weekend of play with success. The team currently has a 31-33 record, placing them half-a-game behind the seventh-place 32-33 KT Wiz.

The first pitch for Saturday’s game between the Giants and Heroes is set for 6:00PM KST (5:00AM EDT).

Around The KBO

The LG Twins got an 8-1 win over the Doosan Bears, not letting the team score until the very last inning.

Hits from Park Min-woo and Kang Jin-sung allowed the NC Dinos to take back the lead and defeat the KT Wiz 3-2.

Two separate innings that had three runs scored in them helped give the SK Wyverns a 7-4 win against the last place Hanhwa Eagles.

A game between the Samsung Lions and the Kia Tigers was rained out. This was the third-straight game that the Lions have missed due to weather.
