Giants Prevail Over Lions After Straily Versus Chae-heung Pitching Battle

Dominant pitching made for a low scoring game on Tuesday, as the Lotte Giants took a 1-0 win over the Samsung Lions. The scoring play for the Giants didn’t come until after both starting pitchers finished their successful performances.

The win opened the home series for the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, Korea.

The Deciding and Sole Run

The only scoring play in the game came in the eighth inning, with Giants first baseman Lee Dae-ho driving Son Ah-seop home. The run came against Lions reliever Lee Seung-hyun, who was given the loss for the game.

Pitchers Steal The Show

Both teams had strong pitching throughout, with 10 hits being allowed in total.

Giants starter Dan Straily kept the Lions to three hits, being pulled early in the seventh inning. Getting seven strikeouts in the appearance, Straily made his season total 32, tying him for most strikesouts in the league along with Koo Chang-mo.

Koo Seung-min, the eighth inning reliever for the Giants was given the win for the game. The ninth inning appearance from Kim Won-joong gave him his third-straight save.

Lions starter Choi Chae-heung played for seven innings, earning five strikeouts and allowing three hits.

Two More At Home For Giants

After the win, the Giants sit in fifth place in the KBO, with a positive record of 10-8. The Lions are currently in ninth place in the league with a 6-13 record.

It was the pitchers who were the focus on Sunday, as the Lotte Giants took a 2-0 win over the Kiwoom Heroes. The game saw 13 hits in total, with only four coming from the Heroes.

The shutout win for the Giants closed their series two-games-to-one against the Heroes at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, Korea.

Both Teams Show Strong Pitching

Giants starter Seo Jun-won was taken out in the seventh inning, leaving after giving up three runs overall. Three pitchers, including closer Kim Won-joong, who was given the save, appeared after.

Despite the loss, Heroes had a good showing on the mound as well. Starter Choi Won-tae allowed only five hits in his six-inning appearance.

Giants Bring In Two Runs

The Giants gained the lead in the third inning, with a hit from Min Byung-hun allowing Dixon Machado to come from second base to home.

Fast-forward to the eighth inning, the Giants scored their second and last run of the game, with pinch hitter An Chi-hong driving in Shin Bon-gi. The run came against Oh Ju-won, who was brought in for only the final out of the game after Lee Young-joon faced five batters in the inning.

Previewing The Fourth Week of Play For The Giants

Finishing the third week of play, the Giants finished in sixth place in the KBO standings with a 9-8 record. They went 2-4 in the week, matching the record they had in the week before.

The Giants will stay at home to start the next week, having a three-game series against the Samsung Lions, who are ranked ninth in the season after having a 2-4 week of play. The first game of the series starts at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT) on Monday.

Later in the week, the Giants will head to the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, Korea, for a three-game series against the Doosan Bears, who sit in third place on the KBO standings.

In a shutout performance, the Samsung Lions beat the Doosan Bears 13-0, getting their only win in the series against the defending champions.

A ninth-inning rally of five runs allowed the LG Twins to mount a comeback and defeat the KT Wiz 9-7.

Getting their 14th win in the season, the NC Dinos had many strong innings of runs against the Hanhwa Eagles to win 10-5.

The SK Wyverns defeated the Kia Tigers 4-3, although it wasn’t easy, as the teams went into the 12th inning where Noh Soo-kwang batted in the game-deciding run.

 

Heroes Put Bats On Display Against Giants Bullpen

The Kiwoom Heroes put together a strong highlight reel against a wide array of Lotte Giants pitchers on Saturday, winning 12-4 in the end. Numerous home runs, two of them from Park Byung-ho, were just some of the big plays made to earn the large lead.

Winning the first game of the series, the Giants are now tied in their home series at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, Korea.

Relievers pitched the entire game for the Giants throughout, with seven pitchers in total playing in the game. The pitching rotation lost a player earlier in the week after Lee Seung-heon was pulled from a game due to a head injury.

Heroes starter Eric Jokisch was given the win for the game, pitching six innings, allowing two runs and six hits. Jokisch has now won his last three appearances, tying himself with four other pitchers for most wins in the season so far.

Heroes Mount Early Lead

The Heroes scored in the first inning, with Lee Jung-hoo batting in Kim Ha-seong. The run came against Lee In-bok, who was taken out after the first inning. He was given the loss for the game.

With Choi Young-hwan on the mound, Heroes right fielder Kim Gyu-min was able to score Lee Ji-young.

Troubles for Young-hwan continued in the third inning, giving up two solo home runs, coming from Kim Ha-seong and Park Byung-ho respectively.

Giants Get On The Board

The Giants finally scored in the fourth inning, with a hit from Kim Dong-han bringing in Han Dong-hee.

Another run came an inning later, as a hit from Jeon Jun-woo took Dixon Machado in from third base. This made the score 4-2, still in favour of the Heroes.

Heroes Pile Onto Lead

Hits continued for the Heroes in the sixth, rallying three runs in the inning. Bringing in one run each, hits from Lee Taek-keun, Kim Joo-hyung and Seo Keon-chang helped extend the lead.

The Heroes had a late run in the eighth inning, bringing in five runs against pitcher Kang Dong-ho. It started with a hit from Kim Ha-seong, bringing in one run. Later, a home run from Lee Jung-hoo added three more runs to the score. The next batter, Park Byung-ho got his second home run of the game. Leaving the inning, the Heroes had a 10-run lead.

Two runs came late for the Giants, although in the grand scheme of the game they were insignificant. In the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly saw Kang Lo-han score. In the ninth, Jung Bo-geun was able to score after a throw went over a second baseman and into left field.

Tied With A Game To Go

The Heroes are currently tied for fourth in the KBO with the Kia Tigers, who hold an identical record of 10-7. The Giants sit below, in sixth place with an 8-8 record.

Now tied with a win each in the series, the Giants and Heroes will meet again on Sunday with a start time of 2:00PM KST (1:00AM EDT).

Bouncing back from an upset loss in the first game of the series, the NC Dinos took a 3-0 win over the Hanhwa Eagles. Starting Dinos pitcher Drew Rucinski went eight innings, allowing four hits.

Taking their second game in the series, the Doosan Bears defeated the Samsung Lions 10-6. Bad news broke about the Lions on Saturday, with reports saying one of their starting pitchers, Ben Lively, will be out for weeks due to injury.

Tying up their series, the KT Wiz earned a 6-2 win over the LG Twins.

An 8-3 win for the Kia Tigers over the SK Wyverns was a tale of two teams. The Tigers are seemingly on the upswing, looking to go 6-0 in the week with a win tomorrow. The Wyverns are 2-14 in the season, 2.5 games behind second-last in the standings.

 

Close Battle Favours Giants At Home Over Heroes

A back-and-forth battle went in favour of the Lotte Giants after a strong sixth inning performance over the Kiwoom Heroes. Finishing with a score of 9-7, the home win at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, Korea, broke the losing streak the Giants had.

The game saw four lead changes, with runs scored in seven of the nine innings played.

Early Momentum Swings

The first run came in when a throw to first by Heroes pitcher Jake Brigham missed the target, giving third base runner Son Ah-seop the chance to get home.

The lead was taken by the Heroes in the third inning, starting with a hit to left field from Park Dong-won that brought Kim Gyu-min home. After, Lee Jung-ho brought in Seo Keong-chang off of a sacrifice fly. Finishing the rally, Dong-won scored off of a fly ball from Park Byung-ho.

Later that inning, the Giants were able the tie the game after a single into left field from Lee Dae-ho brought two runners home, making the game 3-3.

Heroes Take Slight Lead

A ball hit perfectly into the left-center gap by Kim Gyu-min allowed Park Jeong-eum to come home, giving the Heroes a 4-3 lead.

Giants starter Noh Kyung-eun was taken out after four innings, allowing five hits and four runs.

Against Park Shi-young, the first of six relievers that the Giants brought in, Heroes designated hitter Park Dong-won hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season.

Shortening the Heroes lead to one run, a sacrifice fly from Lee Dae-ho allowed Min Byung-hun to get home.

After pitching five innings, the Heroes pulled their starter Jake Brigham, finishing with seven hits and four runs against.

Strong Sixth Inning Puts Giants Ahead For Good

The Giants took back the lead for the last time in the sixth after a triple from Min Byung-hun brought three runners home, making the game 5-7. He was drove home by Son Ah-seop in the following play.

The scoring came against Kim Jae-woong, who was given the loss for the game.

Giants Escape Jam, However, Not Unscathed

With bases loaded in the seventh, the Heroes had a chance to get in the lead again. One run was earned after Park Byung-ho was walked, forcing a man home from third.

With no outs, reliever Oh Hyun-taek was brought in to get the team out of the jam. While the team was able to get a double play, a runner came in to make the game 8-7. Hyun-taek was able to finish the inning.

An insurance run came in for the Giants in a double from Dixon Machado that took An Chi-hong home.

Giants closer Kim Won-joong got his first save of the season, making his record 1-0-1. Getting three strikeouts in his one-inning appearance, Giants pitcher Park Jin-hyung was awarded the win.

Giants Bounce Back, Heroes Compete For Spot

With the victory, the Giants won a game after losing their last four, including a series where the Kia Tigers swept them.

With a 9-7 record, the Heroes are now tied for fourth place in the KBO with the Kia Tigers.

Tigers Limit Giants To Three Hits In Shutout Win

Holding the Lotte Giants to only three hits, the Kia Tigers picked up a shutout 6-0 win on Wednesday. The win, which came at their home ballpark Gwangju Kia Champions Field in Gwangju, Korea, made it their second win in the series.

Along with the strong defence was an early start from the Tigers, earning five runs over three innings.

Early Runs For Tigers

Runs came early for the Tigers, who got ahead in the first after a home run was hit into center by Choi Hyung-woo, bringing home Preston Tucker as well, as he was walked in the play before.

An inning later, a hit from Park Chan-ho brought in a third run for the Tigers. The play gave Chan-ho his first RBI of the season.

Bringing in two more runs, a perfectly hit ball into the left-center gap by Na Ji-wan brought home two runners to make the game 5-0.

Giants starting pitcher Dan Straily was taken out of play after the fifth inning. Now with a 1-2 record in the season, Straily finished the game after allowing six hits and five runs.

Against the first of two relievers the Giants would bring in, Song Seung-jun, catcher Han Seung-taek hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Strong Defence From Tigers

The Tigers displayed strong defence throughout the game. A triple-play was pulled off in the fifth inning, the first one to be recorded in the 2020 KBO season.

In his third start for the Tigers, Drew Gagnon got his first win of the season, making his record 1-2. He pitched six innings, allowing only two hits. The three following pitchers held the Giants to only one hit.

Tigers Look For Sweep

After Wednesday, The Giants place fifth in the KBO with a 7-6 record. Right below them is the Tigers, who have a 7-7 record. A win tomorrow for the Tigers would move them into the upper half of the standings.

Going into the 11th inning to find a winner, a hit from Park Se-hyuk drove in the game-winning run for the Doosan Bears, who defeated the NC Dinos 2-1. The win snapped a seven-game winning streak that the Dinos had, which has put them atop the KBO standings.

Scoring consistently almost inning after inning, the KT Wiz picked up their second win against the Hanhwa Eagles, this time with a final score of 8-1.

Ending their 10-game losing streak, the SK Wyverns earned a 5-3 win against the hosting Kiwoom Heroes. 

Strong Start Leads Tigers To Win At Home Over Giants

A rough start from Lotte Giants pitcher Seo Jun-won allowed the Kia Tigers to bring home seven runs over four innings, winning with a final score of 9-2.

Jun-won was pulled after the fourth, giving up 11 hits, finishing the game with an ERA of 15.75. Being handed the loss, his record for this season is now at 1-1. In 2019, his debut season for the Giants, Jun-won finished the season with a 4-11 record over 33 appearances.

Scoring Begins Early For Tigers

The Tigers got to work early, with a home run from Na Ji-wan putting the team up by three in the first inning.

Another home run came an inning later, with Tigers first baseman Hwang Dae-in crushing a ball past left field. Kim Sun-bin batted in another run in the inning, getting a single off of an infield hit while Hwang Yoon-ho scored.

The lead got extended even more in the fourth inning, starting with a solo home run from Han Seung-taek, making the lead 6-0. A hit from Kim Sun-bin brought Park Chan-ho home later in the inning.

Two Little, Too Late For Giants

Down by seven runs, the Giants finally got on the board in the fifth inning. A hit from Jung Bo-geun allowed Han Dong-hee to get home.

In the final inning that Tigers starter Lee Min-woo pitched, a fly ball fron An Chi-hong gave Son Ah-seop the chance to score, making the game 7-2.

Min-woo finished the game after allowing four hits and getting six strikeouts.

Final Runs For Tigers

The Tigers got two more runs in with their final batting appearance of the game. In the eighth inning, Ko Hyo-jung hit a batter with a pitch, forcing a run home due to the loaded bases. In the next play, a fly ball hit by Choi Won-joon brought Preston Tucker home.

Closing the show, Tigers pitcher Moon Kyung-chan struck out three-straight Giants batters in the ninth inning.

Tigers Look To Win Two More At Home

Shin Bon-gi was back in the lineup for the Giants in this game after missing a couple outings last week. With Bon-gi being cycled back in, Heo Il was taken out of the lineup.

With a 7-5 record, the Giants are currently tied for fourth with the Doosan Bears. The Tigers sit in sixth with a 6-7 record. The second game of the three game series is scheduled for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT) on Wednesday.

Early hot bats from the LG Twins allowed them to cruise to a 10-6 victory against the Samsung Lions. 

While the Hanhwa Eagles were able to heat up near the end of their game, including a nine-run inning, they could not catch up to the lead the KT Wiz held, winning the game 13-11.

Despite replacing their starter early, the Kiwoom Heroes were able to defeat the SK Wyverns 11-6. With the loss, the Wyverns extend their losing streak to 10 games.

Weathering a late storm from the Doosan Bears, the NC Dinos were able to win 5-4. At the top of the KBO standings, the Dinos are on a seven-game winning streak.

11th Inning Balk Earns Eagles 5-4 Victory Over Giants

A balk in the 11th inning of play from Lotte Giants pitcher Kim Dae-woo gave the deciding run to the Hanhwa Eagles, finishing the game with a score of 5-4.

The final scoring play stopped late momentum that the Giants earned in the game which allowed them to tie it up and go into extra innings.

The Eagles wrapped up the series with two wins over the Giants, who took the Saturday game at Hanhwa Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, Korea.

Lee Seung-heon Injured Early

Giants starter Lee Seung-heon had to be removed in the third inning after taking a line drive to the head. Down for several minutes, Seung-heon was stretchered off the field. Later, a scan revealed a “slight forehead fracture,” per Daniel Kim.

Replacing the injured starter, Song Seung-jun entered the third inning with bases loaded and one out. Hits from Ha Ju-suk and Lee Seung-yeol allowed the team to get up by three runs before the inning concluded.

An inning later, Kim Hoe-sung was able to bring home another run, making the game 4-0.

Giants Mount Comeback

The Giants started to mount a comeback in the fifth, with Dixon Machado sending a solo home run into left field, his fourth of the year.

Eagles starter Kim Min-woo was taken out of the game after seven innings, giving up only two hits.

Much later in the eighth inning, Jeon Jun-woo launched a ball into left field for a two-run home run. The Giants veteran got his fourth of the season, bringing the lead to one run for the Eagles.

Joining the party of home runs, Han Dong-hee tied up the game in the ninth with a solo shot.

Balk Causes End To Game

When Kim Dae-ho was pitching with two outs and a man on third in the 11th, he balked while throwing the third pitch against Jung Jin-ho. After some debate, it was ruled that Jang Woon-ho would score from third, ending the game.

Giants To Meet Tigers and Heroes For The First Time In 2020

The Giants finish their second week of play with a record of 7-4, putting them in a three-way tie for second in the league. They went 2-4 this week, playing a flawless 5-0 the week before.

Next week, the Giants are set to play a series against the Kia Tigers (5-7) and the Kiwoom Heroes (7-5). The first game of the week kicks off at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT) on Tuesday at the Gwangju Kia Champions Field in Gwangju, Korea.

Giants Cruise To 5-1 Victory Over Eagles

The Lotte Giants won a low scoring game against the Hanhwa Eagles on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 5-1. The win, which came at the Hanhwa Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, Korea, tied the series up at one game for each team.

Both Teams Bring One Home

The Giants got up by one run in the second when a hit from Kim Joon-tae took Dixon Machado home. Not starting most games, Joon-tae earned his first hit and RBI in the 2020 season in this play.

Answering back in the third, Eagles player Jung Eun-won was able to score while Giants defence caught a runner stuck between first and second base.

Giants starter Noh Kyung-eun earned his first win of the season, being pulled after six innings, allowing eight hits and one run.

Appearances from five relievers from the Giants bullpen helped limit the Eagles to two hits over three innings.

Giants Take Lead

Giants regained the lead in the fifth with Lee Dae-ho driving Son Ah-seop home to make the game 2-1.

Warwick Staupold, who is in his second season with the Eagles, finished the game after the seventh inning, allowing two runs and eight hits, giving him the loss for the game.

Staupold had a strong opening day start, pitching a nine-inning shutout against the SK Wyverns.

Insurance Runs For Giants

The lead was extended past what was needed in the later innings of the game. Against Kim Jin-young, Han Dong-hee was able to bring An Chi-hong into home plate.

Two more runs came in the ninth inning. First, a hit from Jeon Jun-woo allowed Min Byung-hun to score.

Heo Il was in the Giants starting lineup for the first time this season, playing right field and going one for five in the evening. Another run came later, where Jeon Jun-woo was allowed home off of an error where Eagles third baseman Oh Sun-jin got in his way.

Tied In Standings, Tied In Series

After this game, both teams see themselves tied with fellow KBO teams. Competing for second, the Giants are tied with the LG Twins with a record of 7-3 each. Lower on the standings, Eagles are tied with the Samsung Lions for seventh, both holding a 4-7 record.

The Giants and Eagles are tied 1-1 going into their final game in the series. The game is set to kick off at 2:00PM KST (1:00AM EDT) on Sunday.

Low Scoring Game Favours Eagles Over Giants

A low-scoring battle on Friday saw the Hanhwa Eagles defeat the Lotte Giants at home. The 2-1 victory had both teams limited to eight hits each, with a fifth inning rally allowing the Eagles to take the lead.

Starting their second series in a row at home, the Eagles won the game at the Hanhwa Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, Korea.

Giants Get Up By One

The Giants got ahead quick, scoring a run in the first inning after Jung Hoon brought An Chi-hong home off of a hit to center.

After six innings of pitching for the Eagles, Kim Ee-hwan was taken out of the game. Keeping the Giants at one run, Ee-hwan gave up seven hits.

Eagles Take The Lead

After going scoreless for the first four innings, a double from Ha Ju-suk allowed Jung Jin-ho to go from second to home. Starter for the Giants, Dan Straily, was taken from the game after, finishing with four strikeouts and seven hits.

With reliever Jin Myung-ho on the mound, Eagles batter Lee Sung-yeol batted in a second run before the inning ended.

The relieving performances from both teams were strong, with only one hit being tallied  for either side.

A Look At The Standings

With the win, the Eagles earned their fourth win of the year, now at a record of 4-6, putting them in a three-way-tie for sixth place. The Giants, who have went 1-3 this week after a stellar 5-0 first week of play, are in a three-way-tie for third place in the KBO with a 6-3 record.

Bears Hand Giants Second Loss, Ending Series At 1-2

The Doosan Bears finished their series against the Lotte Giants with a win on Thursday, beating the home team 7-4. The win makes them win the series 2-1, bouncing back from a loss in the previous game.

While the game was even after four innings, the Bears pulled ahead in later innings, including a seventh inning which sealed their win, including a home run from Oh Jae-il. The game wrapped up the week-long homestretch for the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

An Early Tied Game

In the first pitch against the Giants, Min Byung-hun blasted a home run into left field. The solo shot was his second of the year and his second game in a row. Later that inning, a hit from An Chi-hong brought home a second run to make a lead of 2-0.

The Bears were able to answer back in the second inning. The first play came off of a defensive mishap, where the Giants third baseman Han Dong-hee failed to tag a runner and first baseman Lee Dae-ho did not catch the ball.

The second run for the Bears came later in the inning with Chung Sang-ho batting in Kim Jae-ho.

Bears Pull Ahead

Taking the lead for the first time in the game, Bears Oh Jae-il batted in Park Kun-woo in the fifth inning. Park Se-woong, who started for the Giants, was given the loss for the game after pitching five innings.

Chris Flexen, who was the starter for the Bears, got his second win of the season after allowing six hits through six innings. He finished his appearance by pitching out of a jam, with no outs and a runner on third and first.

The lead was extended in the seventh after a two-run shot from Oh Jae-il against pitcher Ko Hyo-jun. Later in the inning, Hur Kyoung-min brought in another run.

In the seventh inning, a home run from Jose Miguel Fernandez put the Bears up 7-2.

Slightly lessening the lead, Giants scored two runs in the eighth. First, a ball hit off  the right field wall from An Chi-hong brought Kim Dong-han home. After, a fly ball hit from Dixon Machado brought in Lee Dae-ho. With that play, Machado earned an RBI for the fifth game in a row.

On The Road To Daejeon

The Giants start a three-game series versus the Hanhwa Eagles tomorrow at the Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, South Korea. The Eagles currently have a 3-6 record, going 1-2 in their recent series against Kia Tigers.

The game is set to start at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT), however early forecasts predict rain could affect the game.

A low scoring 1-0 game allowed the NC Dinos to sweep their series against the KT Wiz. With the win, the Dinos took first place in the KBO.

A rally in the first inning for the Hanhwa Eagles allowed them to cruise to a 4-1 win against the Kia Tigers. The Eagles bounced back with the win, losing the two previous games in the series.

Pinch hitter Jeong Keun-woo was able to get the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the LG Twins, batting in Oh Ji-hwan to make the final score 3-2 against the SK Wyverns.
