The Giants and Tigers traded blows in the early innings, going tit-for-tat in the opening two innings.

A ball hit by Jeon Jun-woo bounced off the top of first-baseman Yoo Min-sang’s glove, going into right field. Ruled as a hit, the play drove home two runs for the Giants and made the game 4-2. The Tigers had trouble in the inning after as well, loading up the bases before ending the frame with a double play.

Another run was tallied for the Giants in the fifth after a throw over the glove of a first baseman allowed Jeon Jun-woo to get around to home.

Tigers starter Im Ki-young finished play after five innings, being given the loss for the runs that he gave up.

The first reliever to come in for the Tigers continued their troubles, as Moon Kyung-chan gave up a two-run home run from Son Ah-seop before getting the third out.

Pitching six innings, Giants starter Park Se-woong was given the win for the game. The decision moved Park to an even 5-5 2020 record, also balancing his ERA at 5.00.

Following their win on Saturday, the Giants moved up to seventh in the KBO. With a 34-35 record, the team surpassed the 35-37 Samsung Lions who lost their respective game on Saturday. The Tigers fell to fifth in the KBO, being overtaken by the LG Twins.

Finishing their game with a 15-run lead, the Kiwoom Heroes defeated the Samsung Lions 22-7. The Heroes will look for their sixth-consecutive win on Sunday in a streak which has shot them into second in the KBO.

The LG Twins got ahead early, scoring six runs in the first inning against Hanhwa Eagles starter Warwick Saupold. The Twins won the game 9-6 in the end.

Brooks Leads Tigers To Win Over Giants

The Lotte Giants lost a low-scoring 3-2 game against the Kia Tigers on Friday, bringing the team back to play after two rained out games earlier in the week at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw two of the biggest pitchers from both franchises, as Aaron Brooks and Dan Straily battled.

Tigers starter Brooks had a marathon outing, pitching eight innings and throwing 105 pitches. Being given the win for the game, his 2020 record moved to 6-3.

Tigers Score Their Runs

The first run came early for the Tigers, as a double from Choi Hyun-woo drove home Lee Chang-jin, who was walked in his respective at-bat earlier.

Late in the performance of starting pitcher Straily, the Tigers were able to get two more runs on the board. A hit from Han Seung-taek scored two more runs, taking the game to a 3-0 score.

Giants Score, But Not Enough

Jung Earns Walk-Off Win For Giants Over Top-Ranked Dinos

A walk-off home run from Jung Hoon gave the Lotte Giants an 11-9 win at home over the top-ranked NC Dinos on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Giants had a crowd at home, as the team returned to the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw the Dinos slowly climb back from a lead the Giants gained early in the game. It became a tie game in the seventh after Dinos player No Jin-hyuk scored a grand slam for the Dinos, tying the game up at 8-8.

In the ninth, another home run from No put the away team ahead by a sole run. The game saw a long pause during the ninth due to rain. Once they returned to play, the Giants were able to take back the lead once Jung hit his home run, moving the game to its final score.

Early Runs Give Giants Four-Run Lead

The first inning saw the Giants get ahead by two runs, as the Dinos starting pitcher Lee Jae-hak faced seven batters. After walking Han Dong-hee and forcing home a run, a sacrifice fly from Dixon Machado took home the second run of the game.

The team followed up with a third run in the second inning, where Jeon Jun-woo batted home a run.

The Dinos got on the board in the third off of a hit from Na Sung-bum.

The Giants continued their early rally in the third, scoring two more runs. First, a hit from Min Byung-hun scored a runner. Dinos starter Lee Jae-hak left the game after, playing one two-and-two-thirds an inning. The appearance was his shortest since a mid-June game against the Kiwoom Heroes.

Giants Look To Overtake Lions

The crowd at Sajik Baseball Stadium was a small one that was spread out in their seating. The outfield seats in the stadium were vacant.

The win was the second time the Giants beat the Dinos this season, as the team lost their previous series in the season against the team two-games-to-one. Another win in the series could move the Giants up to seventh in the KBO, as the team is currently only half-a-game behind the Samsung Lions.

Crowds, Albeit Small, Are Back

Sunday was the first day of the season which saw a live audience at KBO games, as a small crowd was accepted into the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. The heavily spaced out crowd left the majority of the seats in the stadium vacant.

For the first time this year, cheers and chants done by the MC and cheerleaders at KBO games were met with claps. A small, spaced out amount, but an audible change nonetheless. The rules around current COVID-19 etiquette at the stadium prevented fans from belting out their team’s chant songs for now.

Heroes Get Five Off of Seo

The first inning was a troubling one for Giants starter Seo Jun-won, who gave up five runs in the time period.

Park Byung-ho brought home the first run, getting a hit that scored Kim Hye-sung. The second run came off the bat of Park Dong-won, although a call at third jeopardized the play.

The rally was threatened early on, as a supposed third out against Park Byung-ho at third base was called. After the umpires deliberated about the puzzling play on third base, it was decided he was in fact safe, validating the run scored in the play and continuing the inning.

The runs continued, with Jeon Byung-woo bringing home two and Park Joo-hong bringing in a final to make the game 5-0. To finish the batting order within the inning, ninth-slot batter Park Joon-tae grounded out.

Starter Seo didn’t give up any more runs for the rest of his performance, although he was given the hook early, being replaced in the fourth inning.

Heroes Add Extra Runs Later

More runs came later in the game for the Heroes, including a hit from Park in the fifth, who scored the first run for of the game for the Heroes earlier. In the seventh, he picked up his third RBI of the game with another hit. Kim ha-seong added to the tally in the eighth off of a fielder’s choice play.

While the Giants lost, they avoided a shutout on the scoreboard after An Chi-hong took home Dixon Machado in the sixth inning.

The Heroes had a large cast of pitchers appearing, as starter Kim Jae-woong only played two-and-a-third innings before being taken out. The game was the first starting pitcher appearance for Kim in the KBO. Coming in after him was Yang Hyun, who was given his fifth win of the season for the innings he pitched.

Giants To Head Back Home

The game saw the Heroes finish their week on a good note, after three losses and two cancelled games made for a rough week for the team before. The team will start their next week of play against the Doosan Bears, moving on to a weekend series versus the Samsung Lions after.

With their long road trip complete, the Giants will head back home on Tuesday to open a series against the NC Dinos. Staying at home, the team will play the Kia Tigers after.

Giants Get Deciding Runs Over Heroes Late In Starter’s Appearance

The Kiwoom Heroes cracked first in a close pitching battle against the Lotte Giants, losing 6-3 at home on Saturday. The game was the second straight win for the Giants at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.
