Dinos Break Six-Game Winning Streak of Giants, Scoring Against Returning Sampson

The NC Dinos picked up a 9-2 win over the Lotte Giants on Thursday, ending the six-game winning streak that the Giants had carried throughout the month of August. The win was the last of the two-game series hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

Sampson Has Rough Return

The game saw Giants starter Adrian Sampson have a rough return to the mound, being taken out in the second inning after giving up six runs. Sampson’s previous game was on July 21st, where he was abruptly pulled in the fourth inning after landing awkwardly on his left leg.

The game, which was his seventh loss of the season, moved his ERA up to 7.20, the highest in the KBO for any pitcher who has pitched 50 or more innings.

Dinos Get Ahead By Six Early

Three separate hits scored the Dinos runs in the first inning. Yang Eui-ji, Park Suk-min and No Jin-hyuk all got an RBI each from hits that drove home runs.

Before being pulled in the second inning, Sampson gave up a three-run home run to Na Sung-bum that moved the score to 6-0.

The Giants got on the board in the fourth inning, as a hit from Min Byung-hun scored two runs. The team did not score any more runs in the game.

The Dinos tacked on extra runs later in the game although in retrospect they were not needed. In an inning that could have been much worse for the Giants, only one run scored in the sixth inning. With bases loaded, runner Ji Suk-hoon got home as the Giants infield got a double play. The team attemped a triple play, although Aaron Altherr was safe at first base.

The play came against reliever Lee In-bok, although the run was scored against Jang Won-sam, as he was in the inning for the batters before.

The two final runs of the game came in the eighth inning, as Yang Eui-ji scored two more RBIs off of a hit against Han Seung-hyuk.

Shin Gets First KBO Win

21-year-old Dinos pitcher Shin Min-hyuk had his first career KBO start in the game, pitching seven innings for the win. The rookie’s two previous KBO appearances were shorter, playing less than three innings in each.

Giants Remain In Sixth Ahead of Series Versus Heroes

The Giants continue to sit in a volatile spot in the KBO standings that could up or down due to one day of play. The team sits sixth with a 39-36-1 record, just barely above the 40-37-1 KT Wiz who trail.

A high-scoring game saw the SK Wyverns score eight runs in the first two innings. The team held onto their lead for the rest of the game, defeating the KT Wiz 10-6.

Giants Move To Six Consecutive Wins Following Game Against Dinos

The Lotte Giants moved their winning streak to six-straight games on Wednesday, defeating the top-ranked NC Dinos 8-4. The game was the first of the week for the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea, as Tuesday’s game was rained out.

The win for the Giants saw the team get a rare victory over Dinos starter Drew Rucinski, a starter who had only lost once before his game on Wednesday. While the Dinos scored four runs in the game, it was a sixth-inning grand slam from the Giants that took the game out of reach.

Dinos Earn Two-Run Lead

The Dinos were first to score, taking home two runs in the first inning. The first was scored by Aaron Altherr, who drove home Lee Myung-gi off of a hit. Two at-bats later, a ground ball from Park Suk-min allowed Na Sung-bum to get home.

Giants Get Eight

The Giants started to score in the third, with a hit from Son Ah-seop taking home two runners. The team took the lead in the fifth, as a hit from Jeon Jun-woo scored two more runs.

Insurance runs came late in the appearance of starter Drew Rucinski, as a grand slam was hit by Kim Joon-tae in the sixth inning made the game 8-2. The home run was only his second of the season, with his first being hit only two games before.

The Dinos had some scoring late in the game, as two runs were earned against reliever Kim Geon-guk. After a hit from Lee Myung-gi scored two runners, Kim was able to finish the inning.

Rucinski was pulled from the game after giving up a home run to Kim. The game was his second loss of the season, moving his record to 11-2. His last loss came in early June, dropping a game to the Doosan Bears.

Giants starter Dan Straily played six innings, giving up six hits and two runs in his stint. Being given the win for the game, Straily got his seventh win of the season. While Straily only earned five strikeouts in his appearance, he continues to lead the KBO in 2020 strikeouts with 116 in total.

The six-game streak of wins for the Giants has been a big one for the team, moving them up the KBO rankings and taking them to a positive record of 39-35. With their Wednesday win the Giants moved up to sixth in the KBO, overtaking the KT Wiz who have a 40-36 record.

The team could continue to move up the rankings if their streak continues, as they now sit only half-a-game behind the fifth-place Kia Tigers.

Going into the 10th inning, the Kiwoom Heroes got a walk-off win after Lee Jung-hoo hit a solo home run to give the team a 3-2 win against the Hanhwa Eagles.

Early scoring from the SK Wyverns including a three-run home run from Choi Jeong that took the game out of reach for the KT Wiz, who lost 11-2.

It was a rough night for Samsung Lions starter Choi Chae-heung, who gave up 11 runs in his five-inning appearance against the Doosan Bears. The Bears won the high-scoring game 15-8.

Rain Causes Giants and Bears To End In Tie

The Lotte Giants and Doosan Bears had their 1-1 game abruptly finished in the sixth inning on Saturday after rain halted play. The game went under a rain delay for 40 minutes before it was cancelled at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

Due to the game only making it into the sixth inning, only the starting pitchers made appearances on the mound. Giants starter Noh Kyung-eun pitched five innings, giving up three hits and one run. Bears pitcher Raul Alcantara pitched six innings, allowing six hits and one run. Alcantara also earned six strikeouts in his appearance.

The Bears got their run in the third inning, as Park Se-hyuk scored a solo home run to get the lead. Park’s home run was his fourth of the season, matching the amount he earned in the 2019 season.

Answering back in the fifth, a sacrifice fly from Giants first-baseman Jung Hoon scored a run to tie the game up.

Giants Remain Tied With The Wiz

A game between the KT Wiz and the Hanhwa Eagles was rained out at the Hanhwa Life Eagles Park in Daejeon, South Korea. The game was the second-straight that the teams have missed due to weather. The teams will play Sunday, with a Monday game also being added to the calendar to make up for a lost game.

Giants Move Up To Sixth In KBO Following Win Against Bears

The Lotte Giants had a late series of runs on Friday to prevail over the Doosan Bears 8-4, moving the Busan squad up to sixth place in the KBO. The win was the first of a weekend series hosted by the Bears at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

The game saw no scoring in the second half, with the Bears striking first in the sixth. The eighth was big for the Giants, as the team scored seven runs including a grand slam.

Bears Get Ahead

Both starting pitchers had good starts, not allowing any runs for the first five innings. While Giants starter Park Se-woong allowed runs late in his appearance, Bears starter Lee Young-ha experienced no issues in his six-inning stint.

The Giants were able to take back the game in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs in the scenario. Bears reliever Park Chi-guk started the inning, although he was pulled after facing three batters. The final batter that Park faced was An Chi-hong, who drove home the first run off of a hit.

Casey Kelley had a good start as well, allowing two runs through seven innings when playing for the LG Twins on Friday, who defeated the Kiwoom Heroes 5-2.

Two games were rained out on Friday. In Gwangju, a game between the NC Dinos and the Kia Tigers were rained out. Over at Daejeon, rain prevented a game between the KT Wiz and the Hanhwa Eagles as well.

Wyverns Give Up Game Versus Giants With Troublesome Fourth Inning

After a day off due to rain, the Lotte Giants picked up an 8-2 win over the SK Wyverns lead by another strong start from Dan Straily. The performance gave the Giants their second win over the Wyverns this week, with a hard fourth inning putting the game out of reach for the Wyverns. The win came at the home field of the Wyverns, the Incheon SK Happy Dream Stadium in Incheon, South Korea.

Straily Earns Sixth Win

Giants starter Dan Straily got his sixth win of the season on Thursday, allowing two runs in his seven-inning performance. Earning four strikeouts, Straily moved his 2020 count to 111, the highest in the KBO currently. His outing saw him allow two runs in the early innings, however he settled into a groove and pitched four scoreless innings after.

Wyverns Score Two

The Wyverns were the first to strike in the game, scoring two runs before the Giants took over. The first run came early, as Choi Jeong batted in his 18th home run of the season. Choi scored again in the third, driving home Kim Jae-hyun to give the Wyverns a preliminary 2-0 lead. Choi leads the club in RBIs and home runs, with a close second place being Jamie Romak.

Giants Cause Trouble In Fourth and Fifth

The Giants started causing trouble in the fourth, scoring six runs. Starting pitcher Kim Joo-han was pulled early in the inning, being replaced by Kim Jung-bin after facing three batters, hitting one with a pitch and walking another.

Due to loading up the bases before being taken out of the game, the first three runs of the inning were scored against Kim Joo-han. Those three runs came off of three different plays, as walks forced three runs home.

Three runs were marked against Kim Jung-bin, although it was Kim Se-hyun who was at the mound for all three. Continuing the rally, hits from Jung Hoon and Son Ah-seop took the game to a 6-0 score. Kim finished the inning for the Wyverns.

After scoring RBIs in the inning before, Han Dong-hee and Dixon Machado came back for seconds in the fifth inning. Both scoring their own solo home runs against Jo Young-woo, the team moved to a 8-2 lead.

Giants Head To Seoul

Winning both their games in Incheon, the Giants will now head to Seoul for a three-game series versus the Doosan Bears. The Wyverns will stay at home, hosting a weekend series versus the Samsung Lions.

Giants Start Week With Shutout Win Versus Wyverns

The Lotte Giants started their week with a shutout 8-0 win over the SK Wyverns on Tuesday. The win kicked off a series at the home ballpark for the Wyverns, the Incheon SK Happy Dream Stadium in Incheon, South Korea.

The game saw the Giants get ahead in the first half with numerous high-scoring innings. The second half of the game saw neither team score.

Giants Get Ahead

The Giants got ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning. First came a hit from Son Ah-seop, driving home a run. After that, a two-run home run was shot into the outfield by Jeon Jun-woo to make the game 3-0.

A series of hits in the second inning was capped off by a hit from Lee Dae-ho, which drove home two runners.

Jeon scored his third RBI of the game in the third inning, driving home a hit to extend the lead.

The final inning of scoring from the Giants was in the fourth, with hits from Min Byung-hun and Jung Hoon both scoring runners, taking the game to a 8-0 final score.

Starters Given Decisions

After the eighth run came in for the Giants, Wyverns starter Ricardo Pinto was taken out of play. Being given the loss for the game, Pinto’s record moved to 4-7. He evened his record against the Giants this season, which is currently 1-1 through three appearances.

A six-inning performance from Giants starter Seo Jun-won gave him the win. Allowing six hits, Seo did not have any runs earned against him through his performance. His 2020 record moved to 5-4, with two of the wins coming against the Wyverns. The game was also Seo’s fourth shutout game of the year.

Giants Starter Noh Earns First Shutout Win of 2020, Defeating Tigers By Eight

The Lotte Giants finished their week with a shutout 8-0 win over the Kia Tigers on Sunday. The win saw the team have two heavy-hitting innings, including one where six runs were scored. The win was the second-in-a-row for the team at their home field, the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

Noh Has Best 2020 Appearance

The win gave starting pitcher Noh Kyung-eun his best performance of the year. Playing seven innings, something that he had only done once before in the season, Noh allowed zero runs in his performance for the first time in 2020. The veteran pitcher lowered his ERA to a 5.12 on the season following the win, which moved his 2020 record to 4-3.

Giants Earn Eight

The Giants gained a lead early, scoring two runs in the third inning. The runs came off of a hit from Lee Dae-ho, who took home Son Ah-seop and Jung Hoon.

A nightmarish fifth inning for the Tigers moved the Giants to a comfortable eight-run lead. Starting Tigers pitcher Drew Gagnon started the inning but was pulled after facing five batters, giving up two runs in the process.

With reliever Ko Young-chang coming in, the Giants scored four more runs off of four separate at-bats. After 11 batters, the Tigers ended the inning with an 8-0 score.

Gagnon was given the loss for his starting performance, making it his first loss since late May. Gagnon’s 2020 record is currently 6-4.

Giants End Homestand as Tigers Open Their Own

The Giants finished the week of play seventh in the KBO, evening their record at 35-35. They will resume play on Tuesday, starting a three-game series against the SK Wyverns, who they’ve went 3-3 against this season. On the weekend, the Giants will head to Seoul to face the 2019 KBO Champions, the Doosan Bears.

The Tigers will spend their next week at home in Gwangju, playing a three-game series against the LG Twins and the NC Dinos each. The series versus the Twins is an important one for the Tigers, as it gives them a chance to pass the team for fourth in the KBO. As it stands currently, the Twins are half-a-game ahead of the Tigers.

Giants Move Into Seventh In The KBO Following Win Over Tigers

The Lotte Giants took a 7-3 win on Saturday over the Kia Tigers, continuing to score after the teams traded runs early on. The game tied up the Giants home series being played at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The win was the first for the Giants since the KBO started to allow live crowds last Sunday.

Giants and Tigers Take Turns

The Giants and Tigers traded blows in the early innings, going tit-for-tat in the opening two innings.

Both teams scored runs in the first inning. First was the away Tigers who scored after Preston Tucker drove home a run off of a hit. Leadoff batter Jung Hoon tied the game back up, hitting a solo home run to start the bottom of the first.

The Twins got ahead again in the second after a hit from Na Joo-hwan drove home a run. Persisting to keep the game close, a sacrifice fly from Giants player Shin Bon-gi tied the game up again later in the inning.

Giants Pull Ahead

A ball hit by Jeon Jun-woo bounced off the top of first-baseman Yoo Min-sang’s glove, going into right field. Ruled as a hit, the play drove home two runs for the Giants and made the game 4-2. The Tigers had trouble in the inning after as well, loading up the bases before ending the frame with a double play.

Another run was tallied for the Giants in the fifth after a throw over the glove of a first baseman allowed Jeon Jun-woo to get around to home.

Tigers starter Im Ki-young finished play after five innings, being given the loss for the runs that he gave up.

The first reliever to come in for the Tigers continued their troubles, as Moon Kyung-chan gave up a two-run home run from Son Ah-seop before getting the third out.

Giants Pitchers Given Decision

Pitching six innings, Giants starter Park Se-woong was given the win for the game. The decision moved Park to an even 5-5 2020 record, also balancing his ERA at 5.00.

A closing performance from Kim Won-joong earned him his 12th save of the season. The closer sits third in the KBO for most 2020 saves.

Game Causes Movement In Standings

Following their win on Saturday, the Giants moved up to seventh in the KBO. With a 34-35 record, the team surpassed the 35-37 Samsung Lions who lost their respective game on Saturday. The Tigers fell to fifth in the KBO, being overtaken by the LG Twins.

A 8-8 game between the Doosan Bears and the NC Dinos went into extra innings, finishing with a 12-10 score in favour of the Bears. The Bears scored four at the top of the 10th, holding onto their lead despite giving up two runs after.

Finishing their game with a 15-run lead, the Kiwoom Heroes defeated the Samsung Lions 22-7. The Heroes will look for their sixth-consecutive win on Sunday in a streak which has shot them into second in the KBO.

The LG Twins got ahead early, scoring six runs in the first inning against Hanhwa Eagles starter Warwick Saupold. The Twins won the game 9-6 in the end.

Brooks Leads Tigers To Win Over Giants

The Lotte Giants lost a low-scoring 3-2 game against the Kia Tigers on Friday, bringing the team back to play after two rained out games earlier in the week at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw two of the biggest pitchers from both franchises, as Aaron Brooks and Dan Straily battled.

Tigers starter Brooks had a marathon outing, pitching eight innings and throwing 105 pitches. Being given the win for the game, his 2020 record moved to 6-3.

Tigers Score Their Runs

The first run came early for the Tigers, as a double from Choi Hyun-woo drove home Lee Chang-jin, who was walked in his respective at-bat earlier.

Late in the performance of starting pitcher Straily, the Tigers were able to get two more runs on the board. A hit from Han Seung-taek scored two more runs, taking the game to a 3-0 score.

Giants Score, But Not Enough

The Giants answered back late in the game, although the team wasn’t able to muster up enough runs to tie up the game. First, a run came in during the seventh inning. A fielder’s choice against An Chi-hong took home Han Dong-hee, who scored a double earlier in the inning.

Tigers closer Jeon Sang-hyun had some trouble, facing six batters before ending the ninth inning. The third of the pack was Dixon Machado, who drove home Kim Dong-han to tighten the score to 3-2.

The Giants are scheduled to host two more games against the Tigers this weekend, with Saturday’s first pitch scheduled for 6:00PM KST (5:00AM EDT). Unlike the series against the Bears, it does not look like rain will prevent play.

The NC Dinos had a late comeback against the Doosan Bears, putting on a six-run rally in the eighth to move to a 10-7 final score. With the loss, the Bears dropped to third in the KBO, giving the spot up to the Heroes.

Jung Earns Walk-Off Win For Giants Over Top-Ranked Dinos

A walk-off home run from Jung Hoon gave the Lotte Giants an 11-9 win at home over the top-ranked NC Dinos on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Giants had a crowd at home, as the team returned to the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw the Dinos slowly climb back from a lead the Giants gained early in the game. It became a tie game in the seventh after Dinos player No Jin-hyuk scored a grand slam for the Dinos, tying the game up at 8-8.

In the ninth, another home run from No put the away team ahead by a sole run. The game saw a long pause during the ninth due to rain. Once they returned to play, the Giants were able to take back the lead once Jung hit his home run, moving the game to its final score.

Early Runs Give Giants Four-Run Lead

The first inning saw the Giants get ahead by two runs, as the Dinos starting pitcher Lee Jae-hak faced seven batters. After walking Han Dong-hee and forcing home a run, a sacrifice fly from Dixon Machado took home the second run of the game.

The team followed up with a third run in the second inning, where Jeon Jun-woo batted home a run.

The Dinos got on the board in the third off of a hit from Na Sung-bum.

The Giants continued their early rally in the third, scoring two more runs. First, a hit from Min Byung-hun scored a runner. Dinos starter Lee Jae-hak left the game after, playing one two-and-two-thirds an inning. The appearance was his shortest since a mid-June game against the Kiwoom Heroes.

An attempted double play in the third saw a ball pass the Dinos first-baseman, allowing a fifth run to come in for the Giants, making the game 5-1.

The game became closer in the fourth inning after the bats of the Dinos started to heat up. First, a hit from Kim Hyung-joon took home two runs in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, an error allowed a third run to come home.

The Giants fought back, as Dixon Machado shot a solo home run into left field to make the game 6-4 in the fifth inning.

A single from Han Dong-hee in the sixth took home two more runs for the Giants.

The relievers in the ninth inning both saw a decision for their performance. Giving up the game-deciding three-run home run, Dinos pitcher Won Jong-hyun was given his second loss of the season. The second win of the season went to Song Seung-jun.

Giants Look To Overtake Lions

The crowd at Sajik Baseball Stadium was a small one that was spread out in their seating. The outfield seats in the stadium were vacant.

The win was the second time the Giants beat the Dinos this season, as the team lost their previous series in the season against the team two-games-to-one. Another win in the series could move the Giants up to seventh in the KBO, as the team is currently only half-a-game behind the Samsung Lions.

The Giants will host the Dinos two more times this week, with Wednesday’s first pitch set for 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

While Raul Alcantara had a strong start for the Doosan Bears, the team fell back late against the Kiwoom Hereos, who got a 6-2 win after some late runs.

Achieving the highest amount of runs in one game this season, the LG Twins defeated the SK Wyverns 24-7.

Two games were rained out, taking the Hanhwa Eagles, Samsung Lions, KT Wiz and Kia Tigers out of competition for the day.
