Seventh Inning Rally Gives Wyverns Win Over Giants

Kicking off their week of play with a win, the SK Wyverns won a back-and-forth game of baseball 10-8 over the Lotte Giants on Tuesday. The win was the first of a homestretch for the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The game saw big swings in momentum at points. The Wyverns took the lead early, although the Giants were able to come back and even take the lead of the game at one point before the Wyverns took over yet again.

Wyverns Get Three To Start Lead By Romak

The Wyverns had an explosive first inning, as a three-run home run from Jamie Romak put the team on the board.

The team scored three more in the fifth inning. The first came off the bat of Choi Jeong, scoring one run. Romak scored another home run in the inning to bring in two more runs, carrying the game to a 6-0 score.

Giants Battle Back, Take Lead

The Giants scored their first run later in the inning, as a hit from Son Ah-seop brought in a run.

The game became close in the sixth inning after the Giants mounted a comeback. After walks forced two runs home, Son hit a grand slam to make the game 7-6 for the Giants. Kim Tae-hoon was the first reliever for the Wyverns in the inning, with Kim Se-hyun taking over after the first run was walked home.

Wyverns Have Strong Seventh

The biggest turning point in the game was the seventh inning, as troubles with Giants pitching allowed the Wyverns to have a rally.

After Romak scored a run against pitcher Park Jin-hyung, the second pitcher of the inning, a hit from Jeong Eui-yoon took three runners home to make the game 10-7. The runs came against Koo Seung-min, the third pitcher in the inning to appear.

Park was given the loss for his performance in the seventh inning.

The win for the Wyverns went to reliever Kim Jung-bin, who pitched in the seventh and eighth innings. Following him saw Seo Jin-yong, who was given his third save of the season for his closing performance.

The Giants were able to get one more run on the board in the game, as Han Dong-hee drove home a run in the ninth inning.

Giants Risk Losing Sixth

Losing to kick off the week of play, the Giants had their record bumped down to 44-41-1 for the 2020 season. The win puts them in a fragile place while sixth in the KBO, as the team is now only half-a-game behind the seventh-place Kia Tigers, who have a record of 45-43.

The Giants will host the Wyverns one more time this week, with their Wednesday game beginning at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

The Samsung Lions took the lead in a tied 3-3 game on Tuesday against the LG Twins after a solo home run from Daniel Palka put the team ahead. The game was Palka’s second as a Lion, as he joined the KBO last week.

A dominating performance saw the top-ranked NC Dinos steamroll the Hanhwa Eagles 11-3.

Regaining the lead late, a hit from Choi Joo-hwan drove home two runs for the Doosan Bears in the eighth inning and helped give the team a 10-8 win over the Kia Tigers.

Holding onto runs they scored early, the Kiwoom Heroes defeated the KT Wiz 4-1.

Lee Scores Five RBIs in Shutout Win For Giants Versus Lions

A successful week for the Lotte Giants ended stress-free as the Busan-based team took a shutout 11-0 win over the Samsung Lions. The game won the two-game series for the Giants which was hosted by the Lions at the Daegu Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea.

Paired with a strong performance from the Giants’ pitching, the high-scoring win for the team was lead by veteran slugger Lee Dae-ho, who earned five RBIs in his appearance.

Lee Takes Many, Including Himself Twice, To Home

The scoring started for the Giants in the third inning. After a hit from Jung Hoon brought in one run, starting pitcher Choi Chae-heung was taken out of the game. Two batters later, Jang Ji-hoon gave up a grand slam to Lee Dae-ho.

The short performance from Choi gave him the loss, taking his 2020 record to 6-4 through 16 appearances.

Scoring his fifth run of the game, Lee scored a second home run in the sixth inning of the game. The run came against Lee Seung-hyun, the fifth pitcher to appear for the Lions in the game.

Late Runs For Giants

As rain started to pick up in the sixth inning the Giants continued to tack runs onto the board. The five-run rally started with a hit from Jeon Jun-woo which took hole two runners. After an error allowed a runner to get home in a play, Han Dong-hee hit a two-run home run to move the score to 11-0.

The game saw just under a 30-minute rain delay in the bottom of the seventh before they resumed.

Straily Earns Another Shutout Win

Earning his eighth win of the season was Dan Straily, who pitched for six innings before the Giants took him out of play. The win was the seventh shutout performance for Straily in 2020.

Earning six strikeouts, Straily moved his 2020 tally to a league-leading 127.

Giants To Play Next Week At Home

Seated sixth in the KBO, the Giants are currently one-and-a-half games behind the wild-card placed KT Wiz.

The Giants will meet three teams in the next week of KBO play. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the first two games, with the Giants hosting the SK Wyverns. Later in the week the Kiwoom Heroes and the Hanhwa Eagles will also visit Busan for games against the Giants.

The Giants continue to follow the KBO’s schedule, although worries are rising in the country of changes coming to the season due to spiking COVID-19 cases.

South Korea reported 397 new cases on Saturday, the highest daily toll since the KBO resumed their season back in May.

While the LG Twins tried to battle back in the ninth inning and scored two runs, they weren’t able to catch up to the lead the Hanwha Eagles had, ending the game with a 4-3 score.

Getting their third consecutive win of the week, the Doosan Bears got an 8-1 victory over the SK Wyverns.

In an upset, the KT Wiz won 10-1 over the top-ranked NC Dinos. The Dinos could potentially lose their spot next week as the Kiwoom Heroes now sit only one game behind.

Giants Move To Sixth In KBO Following Win Over Lions

The Lotte Giants moved up to sixth in the KBO on Saturday following a 5-3 win over the Samsung Lions. The win, which saw the Giants overtake the Kia Tigers in the standings, took place at the ballpark for the Lions, the Daegu Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea.

The Giants improved their record to 43-30-1 with the win, passing the Tigers who have a 44-42 record. The team now sits one-and-a-half games behind the KT Wiz, who hold the fifth and final spot into the KBO playoffs currently.

Starters Dictate Score

The game on Saturday was one that was decided off of the performances from both starting pitchers, as scoring did not happen past six innings of play.

Giants and Lions Trade Lead Early

The Lions took a short lead in the first inning, getting two runs in against Giants starting pitcher Seo Jun-won. After Koo Ja-wook took home a run off of a hit, a sacrifice fly from Kang Min-ho drove in another, making the game 2-0.

The Giants were quick to respond, regaining the lead in the second inning after a three-run home run from Shin Bon-gi.

Tying the game up, another hit from Lions player Koo brought in a run in the fifth inning. The fifth inning was the last for starter Seo, who was given his sixth win of the season for his performance.

In the final inning from Lions starter Won Tae-in, the Giants were able to score runs to take a lead that wouldn’t be battled back from. A fielder’s choice play off of a ground ball from Min Byung-hun and a hit from pinch hitter Oh Yoon-suk scored a run each, giving the Giants their 5-3 lead.

Being given the loss for the game, Won’s 2020 record is now 6-5.

This week was the first of six that will see KBO teams play three two-games series’ in a week as opposed to two three-game series’. The Giants will wrap up their week of play on Sunday playing the Lions again.

The Kiwoom Heroes battled back from a three-run deficit on Saturday, as a hit from Kim Woong-bin and a three-run home run from Heo Jeong-hyeop game the team a 4-3 win over the Kia Tigers.

Two games were rained out on Saturday. In Seoul, a game between the Hanhwa Eagles and LG Twins was stopped due to rain. At Suwon, rain also prevented a matchup between the NC Dinos and the KT Wiz. Due to the rain issues, the teams will play on Sunday as well as on Monday.

Choi Earns Bears Sole Run In Low-Scoring Win Over Giants

A game that remained scoreless for the majority of the time saw a late run giving the Doosan Bears a 1-0 win over the Lotte Giants on Friday. The win finished a four-game series between the teams, ending it with both teams winning two games each.

The win for the Bears was their first of the week from home at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

The game got it’s first run in the bottom of the ninth, with a hit from Choi Yong-jae drove home a run and ended the game in walk-off fashion. The run came against reliever Choi Jun-yong, an 18-year-old rookie who got his first loss through 10 appearances in 2020.

The win for the game went to Bears reliever Hong Gun-hee, who was brought in to earn the final out against the Giants in the ninth.

Starters Have Solid Stints

The game saw successful starting pitcher appearances from both teams. The Giants had Noh Kyung-eun, who had a scoreless stint for only the second time in 2020. Allowing four hits, Noh played six innings before being substituted out.

Also playing six innings was the Bears starter Lee Seung-jin, who only allowed two hits. Only playing as a starter for the third time this year, the game was Lee’s longest appearance of 2020.

Teams Head Separate Ways For Weekend Games

To finish their week, the Giants will head to the home park of the Samsung Lions in Daegu for a two-game series that kicks off on Saturday. The club has played the Lions nine times this season, going 3-6 against the team.

The Giants still have the potential to move up to sixth in the KBO this week. With the Tigers also losing their Friday game, the Giants remain half-a-game behind the sixth-place team.

Lee Takes Back Lead For Giants Late, Defeating Bears By One Run

The Lotte Giants picked up a win on Thrursday, defeating the Doosan Bears 6-5 after a ninth inning hit from Lee Dae-ho scored two runs, giving the team the lead. The win was the third game of the week between the teams, although it was the first game at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

The game was one that favored the Giants for a while, seeing the Bears slowly battle back late. The Bears took the lead for the first time in the eighth inning, causing the Giants to step up and retake the game in the ninth.

Neither starter was given a decision from the game due to it’s late-scoring nature. The Giants pitcher Park Se-woong had a strong performance, allowing one run in five innings. Bears pitcher Raul Alcantara played six innings, allowing three runs in total.

The Bears were able to tie the game up an inning later, driving home two runs off of hits. The first came against reliever Lee In-bok, as Lee Yoo-chan drove home a runner off of a single. When Koo Seung-min came in, a hit from Jung Soo-bin to right field moved the game to 3-3.

Bears Take Lead, Giants Regain Composure Late

Bears reliever Park Chi-guk was brought into the game in the seventh inning, looking to take the team out of a zero-out bases-loaded jam. He was able to do so, although he gave up one run to Son Ah-seop along the way, giving the Giants the lead 4-3.

Giving the Bears the lead for the first time in the game, Fernandez sent a ball deep into right-center to drive in two runs in the eighth inning. The scoring came against Giants closer Kim Won-joong, who pitched the inning after as well.

The ninth inning performance from Kim was quick, facing only four batters before the inning ended. Kim earned his third win of the year, with his outstanding statistic in 2020 still being saves, which currently sits at 12.

The game-deciding runs from the Giants in the ninth came against Hong Gun-hee, who got his third loss of the year.

Now up two-games-to-one in their four game series against the Bears, the Giants have put themselves in a position to potentially move up to sixth in the KBO on Friday. The team currently has a 42-39-1 record, putting them only half-a-game behind the 44-40 Kia Tigers.

Sampson Gets First Win Since Return For Giants, Defeating Bears

The Lotte Giants tied up their series with the Bears this week following a 7-3 win on Wednesday. The victory was the final game at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea for the week, as the Giants will head to Seoul for their next two games against the Bears.

A huge factor in the game was pitching from the Giants early on.

Giants starter Adrian Sampson had a successful outing, earning the win after keeping the Bears hitless through six innings. The win was a major bounce back for Sampson, who had given up six runs in two innings against the NC Dinos in his previous appearance.

Giants Earn Five-Run Lead

The first run for the Giants came in the fourth, as a sacrifice fly from Lee Dae-ho took home Jung Hoon.

The scoring continued an inning later, as hits from An Chi-hong, Jung and Jeon Jun-woo took the game to a 5-0 score.

The Bears were able to score three runs late in the game against relievers. In the seventh inning, a run batted in by Kim Jae-ho was scored against reliever Han Seung-hyuk.

Bears Give Straily Highest Personal Single-Game ERA of 2020, Defeating Giants

The Doosan Bears started their week with a dominant performance over the Lotte Giants on Tuesday, winning 9-2. The game continued the homestand for the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The win saw the Bears get ahead early with runs, scoring six runs against starter Dan Straily.

Straily’s four-inning performance saw him record his highest ERA in a 2020 appearance, finishing with an ERA of 13.50. The loss moved Straily’s 2020 record to 7-5.

The game was played without a live crowd, as spiking COVID-19 cases in South Korea have caused the majority of KBO teams to not allow audiences for the time being.

Bears Score Early

In the first inning, a hit from Kim Jae-hwan took home Jose Miguel Fernandez, who had scored a hit to get on base earlier in the inning.

Scoring picked up in the second starting with an error, as a missed throw to first base from Straily allowed runner Kim Jae-ho to score. Later in the inning, hits from Fernandez and Oh Jae-il made the game 4-0.

The Giants were able to score two runs in the game, with both coming against starting pitcher Choi Won-joon. The first was in the fourth inning, with a ground ball allowing Jung Hoon to get home. In the sixth, the last inning that saw Choi on the mound, a solo home run from Son Ah-seop gave them their second run.

Choi earned the win for his six-inning outing, keeping his 2020 record at an undefeated 7-0. Choi’s record is the second-highest undefeated record in the KBO this year, trailing NC Dinos pitcher Koo Chang-mo’s 9-0 record.

Insurance Runs Come In For Bears

Tacking onto their lead, the Bears scored three runs through the sixth and seventh. The run in the sixth came against Kim Dae-woo, a reliever who pitched in the fifth as well. The run was driven in by Choi Joo-hwan.

Two more runs came in the seventh inning for the Bears. The first came off of an error, as a ball passed third base, allowing Hur Kyoung-min to score. Reliever Lee In-bok was pulled from the game shortly after, with Kim Geon-guk replacing him. A hit from Fernandez drove home another run, which was scored against Lee. The final two innings of the game went scoreless.

Bears Take First Game of Four-Game

The Bears are set to play three more games this week versus the Giants, with the latter half at the home park of the Bears in Seoul. The Giants will host one more game this week, with Wednesday’s game starting at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

In a series between the top two teams in the KBO currently, the NC Dinos defeated the Kiwoom Heroes 5-1. The win moved the Dinos up to being one-and-a-half games ahead of the Heroes in the KBO standings.

Scoring six runs against starter Kim Min-woo, the SK Wyverns got ahead early and went on to beat the Hanhwa Eagles 9-3.

After being scoreless for five innings, the KT Wiz scored six runs in the final four innings of their game, winning over the Samsung Lions 6-3.

Winning in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning, Kim Hyun-soo hit a solo home run to give the LG Twins a 6-5 win against the Kia Tigers.

Giants Drop To Seventh In The KBO After Losing Series To Heroes

The Lotte Giants lost 6-3 on Sunday to the Kiwoom Heroes, dropping the team down to seventh in the KBO standings. The game, which took place at the home field for the Giants, the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea, won the series for the Heroes after being tied at a game each following Saturday.

The game went back-and-forth early, with the Heroes taking the lead for good in the sixth inning.

3-3 Through Four

The Heroes got on the board first, scoring a run in the second inning as Giants starter Seo Jun-won struggled. The run was the result of a runner being forced to score due to a walk on loaded bases.

The Giants took the lead for a short period of time in the game when they scored three runs in the third inning. After a sacrifice fly ball from Lee Dae-ho drove home a run, a single from Han Dong-hee took in two more runs.

The game was tied up in the fourth after Heroes player Park Joon-tae hit a two-run home run. Giants starter Seo was pulled in the next inning.

Home Run Puts Heroes Ahead

The deciding run for the Heroes came in the sixth inning, as a hit from pinch hitter Song Woo-hyun brought a runner home. Another run was driven in by Seo Keon-chang later in the inning as well.

The runs came against reliever Jang Won-sam, giving the 37-year-old his third loss of the season. Jang has yet to record a win or save in the 2020 season through seven appearances.

The final run of the game came in the seventh inning, as a wild pitch from Giants reliever Park Jin-hyung allowed Jeon Byung-woo to get home.

Heo Gets Struck In Head

Later in his appearance, Park hit batter Heo Jeong-hyeop in the head with a pitch. Being able to leave the play under his own power, Heo was replaced by Park Jeong-eum for the rest of the game.

Giants Look To Week Against Bears

The Giants are set to play six games against the Bears next week, with the first half of the week at home. The team has played the team six times before, currently tied 3-3 in 2020.

A fast and low-scoring game went to the Hanhwa Eagles, who defeated the Samsung Lions 3-2 due to scoring plays from Oh Sun-jin and Kang Kyung-hak in the second inning.

Scoring four runs in the first two innings, the KT Wiz bounced back from a loss, defeating the Doosan Bears 4-1.

Sweeping their series, the LG Twins picked up a 6-5 win over the NC Dinos on Sunday. The win was the fifth-straight for the Twins.

After getting eight runs in the first three innings, the Kia Tigers were able to coast to a 8-5 victory over the SK Wyverns. The win gave the Tigers a sweep in the series.

 

Heroes Bounce Back From Friday With Low-Scoring Win Over Giants

The Kiwoom Heroes bounced back from a Friday loss on Saturday, defeating the Lotte Giants 3-1. The game saw the Heroes get ahead early with runs over Giants starter Noh Kyung-eun. The win tied up the series hosted by the Giants at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The win for the Heroes took place on Liberation Day, a national holiday in South Korea.

Heroes Take The Lead

Early runs were proven to be enough for the Heroes, as the team held onto a lead following scoring plays in the second and third innings.

The Heroes scored their first two runs in the second inning, as hits from Heo Jeong-yeop and Lee Ji-young scored runs. An inning later, Kim Woong-bin scored the third run for the team.

Starters Given Decisions

The runs came against starter Noh Kyung-eun, who was given the loss for his six-inning performance. The veteran pitcher got his 2020 record evened at 4-4, being given his first loss since mid-June.

On the other side, Heroes starter Lee Seung-ho got a win for his 100-pitch and near eight-inning shutout performance. Allowing only five hits and one walk, Lee got his second consecutive win, making his 2020 record 4-4.

Lee Allows A Run, Gets 20th Save

The Giants had a late push against Heroes reliever Jo Sang-woo, loading up the bases and even scoring a run before the game ended. The sole run was a ground ball by Min Byung-hun. The play and the run coming in was kept alive by Dixon Machado, who survived a rundown between first and second base to avoid the third out and keep the inning alive. Jo finished the inning in the next at-bat by striking out Heo Il.

While the ninth-inning performance from reliever Jo allowed a run, he was given his 20th save of the season, the most by any KBO pitcher in 2020 so far.

Giants Remain In Sixth

The Giants retained their sixth-place spot in the KBO on Saturday despite a loss that moved their record to 40-37-1. The trailing team, the KT Wiz who have a record of 41-38-1, also lost their Saturday game, stopping them from overtaking the Giants.

The tiebreaking game between the Giants and Heroes will happen tomorrow, with the first pitch at 5:00PM KST (4:00AM EDT).

Giants Retain Sixth In KBO Following Win Against Heroes

The Lotte Giants opened their series against the Kiwoom Heroes on Friday with a win, scoring runs against starter Yang Hyun to win the game 5-1. The win was the third in the week for the Giants, who continued their home stretch at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea.

The win was a quick bounce back from their Thursday loss to the NC Dinos which ended a previous six-game winning streak. A strong defensive perfromance from the Giants prevented the Heroes from scoring more than a run, meaning that early runs from the Giants were enough to secure a victory.

Giants Score, Taking Yang Out of Game

The Giants scored their first runs in the third inning over starter Yang Hyun. After hits from Son Ah-seop and Jeon Jun-woo both drove home a run, Yang was pulled from the game by the Heroes.

Despite playing a short 41-pitch appearance, Yang was given the loss for the game. Being the reliever’s first time as a starter this year, Yang’s 2020 record moved to 6-3.

Before the inning ended, Giants player Han Dong-hee batted home a third run against reliever Kim Jae-woong.
