Bats Heat Up For Giants In Extra Innings Versus Bears

For the second straight game in the series, the Doosan Bears went into extra innings against the Lotte Giants. This time, however, it was the Giants who got the win after a strong five-run 11th inning let them win 8-3.

The win was the only the Giants picked up in the series, losing the two previous games to the Bears at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, Korea.

Back-And-Forth Lead Battle

The Bears got on the board first, with a hit from Park Kun-woo batting in Choi Joo-hwan.

The Giants had a long fifth inning, scoring two runs with eight at-bats in the inning. With bases loaded, a routine ground ball to first went past the base, allowing two runners to score and make the game 2-1 for the Giants.

Extending their lead by another run, the Giants first-baseman Lee Dae-ho batted in Jeon Jun-woo in the seventh against reliever Park Chi-guk.

Tying the game up and forcing overtime innings, the Bearsd drove in two runs in the eighth against Lee In-bok. A hit from Park Kun-woo dropped down in center field, scoring two runners.

Extra Innings Needed

Heading to the 11th inning, the game was still tied 3-3. That changed in the 11th inning five a long series of runs scored by the Giants. First, a hit from Lee Dae-ho drove home aAro run, giving him his second RBI in the game. A following hit from An Chi-hong got two more runners in.

The first few runs came against reliever Lee Hyung-bum, with him being pulled after. Dixon Machado hit a sacrifice fly that scored another runner. Before Kim Joon-tae gave the third out to the team, a hit from Han Dong-hee scored another runner, giving the Giants an 8-3 lead.

The Bears were not able to score against Koo Seung-min, who pitched the final inning for the Giants.

American Starters Battle

Both starting pitchers played five innings. Giants starter Dan Straily allowed seven hits and one run, obtaining five strikeouts. Chris Flexen, who was making his second appearance against the Giants, allowed two runs and three hits.


Finishing the series, the Giants sit in sixth place in the KBO, with the Bears eing up in third. Next week, the Giants start their week on the road, playing against the Kia Tigers in a three game series. They head back home on Friday, hosting a series against the KT Wiz.

So far this season, the Giants have went 0-3 against the Tigers and 3-0 against the Wiz.

The series against the Tigers starts on Tuesday, with first pitch at 6:30PM KST (5:30AM EDT).

Around The KBO

Runs in the fifth and sixth inning put the SK Wyverns ahead, allowing them to cruise to a 6-4 victory over the Hanhwa Eagles. The win gave the Wyverns a sweep of the whole series, extending their winning streak to four games.

Out of all high scoring games on Sunday, the biggest lead saw the NC Dinos get a 18-7 win against the Samsung Lions. The win was a bounce back for the top ranked KBO team, the Dinos, as they lost the first two games of the series.

A 13-5 win gave the LG Twins a good win against the Kia Tigers. It was a strong week for the Twins, who went 5-1 in their games.

While the Kiwoom Heroes would get close to the lead of the KT Wiz, they never fully caught up, with the Wiz winning 12-8.
